Could this be them on the 1861 - St Luke, Middlesex

Charles Dowling abt 1860  St Luke Son
Edward Dowling abt 1825  Spitalfields Head
Edward Dowling abt 1846  St Luke
Joseph Dowling abt 1850  St Luke Son
Maria Dowling abt 1830  St Luke Wife
Maria Dowling abt 1848  St Luke Daughter

Can't see anything else, however Edwards occupation is "Smith work" (I think). Could Maria be a Mary Ann - age is correct? Sorry couldn't be more helpful.

Nettle:  Thank you although I doubt if it is the right family.  Edward in 1867 was described as a tailor and you do not learn that trade overnight.  Are you able to search south of the river?  Ann, born 1848, in the 1871 census -- she married in 1867 -- gave her place of birth as Paddington but in a later censuses changed it to Peckham.  I appreciate your help.  Patrick

I'm afraid this was the best match I could see on the whole census. Maybe the name was transcribed in a peculiar way.

Hope someone else might have more luck.

Keith.

Hi

I'm doing a bit of housekeeping and wondering whether you're still looking for this information or found in the meantime?  If you're still looking, do you have any further information that might help locate it?

If I don't hear from you in a while I'll move this to 'Completed' assuming the information is no longer required.

Regards
Biker

Hi patrk

No I hadn't moved it, just waiting to hear from you whether you're still looking or not.  If the former, any other info to pinpoint them as apparently they're in hiding somehow.

Regards
Biker

Edward the Smith looks good to me in light of his father's occupation  :) and he is the only Edward anywhere near the age that lives in London (north or south of the River).

1841
6 KINGS COURT, ST LUKE, FINSBURY, MIDDX
BRIDGES DOWLING   40    TAILOR                          IRELAND
EDWARD        "           15   SMITH                            Y (BORN MIDDX)
CHARLES        "          13    PAPER STAINER             Y
-----------
1841 rule applies ie  15-19=15, 40-44=40 etc
