I am trying to confirm the birth, christening and death date of a Jane Osborn - born to George Osborn and Hannah Lambly. The information I have is as follows:
George Osborn (b 10/04/1764, Rochester, Kent - d 05/05/1836, Rochester, Kent)
Hannah Lambly (b 07/12/1769 - Ipswich, Suffolk - d 18/12/1847, Rochester, Kent
Children:
George Osborn (b 17/04/1802, england - d 13/03/1803, england) - I need to confirm this as well
George Osborn (b 28/03/1808, england - d 18/04/1891, england) married Elizabeth Chubb 16/08/1833 (b 11/1810, england - chr 06/01/1811 - d12/05/1898)
Jane Osborn - I have 2 conflicting christening dates for her:
b 01/12/1779, england - Chr 18/08/1798, London - Chr 14/01/1798, Bethel-Wesleyan, Rochester, Kent.
I am leaning towards the second christening date being correct as the parents are from Rochester, Kent.
If anyone can confirm these dates of offer the correct ones it would be great, and I would also like to know if there are any other children.

You don't say where you got the information from. If it was the IGI, the only way you can confirm or refute it would be by going to the original parish registers. Kent has a good look-up service for its archives, though you would have to pay. Go to the Kent board or google "Kent archives" for the site.

Now duplicated on the Kent board

IS THIS PARTICULAR THREAD TO BE CLOSED?

I would like to keep it in both as I am looking for any information available - someome suggested I post it in the Kent section, but I am not sure if all the people I have asked about are registered in Kent or not.
As a matter of interest, how does one close a post?

Hi Shannon
This looks as though it could be rather confusing. It's always best to start with what you know for certain ie. can we assume that you are looking for a Jane OSBORN? If so, do you not have some idea of her age/birthplace from census returns/marriage/post 1812 burial in England/post 1837 death in England? Or are you tracing back from George OSBORN and Elizabeth CHUBB? Let us know where you are at (forgetting the IGI refs for the minute) and we're all try and help :)
The parish registers for Rochester are online http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/query/results/?Mode=Search&PathList=%2FZ4a_Medway_Ancestors%2F%0A&SearchWords=&DateList
This doesn't include non-conformist baptisms but marriages prior to 1837 took place in the local C of E church apart from Quakers and Jews. Again, the C of E burials may contain those of non-conformist persons also if they didn't have their own independant burial ground.

Jane Osborn's info is my main concern - most of the information I have posted is from family records. The only things from IGI were her christening dates and the 1st George Osborn who died shortly after birth. I basically wanted to confirm that there were two sons born with the name George - one of whom died and the christening date for Jane was more interest than anything else. I would like to know a death date for Jane as well.
-
Ok Shannon. Were your ancestors C of E? Did George & Hannah marry in Rochester? If so, have you searched the CMB registers for Rochester and surrounding parishes?
Casalguidi
-
Please excuse my ignorence, but what is C of E (Church of England??)?
I don't know where they married. I actually have nothing on them on family record, I found out about them I think on IGI.
I do know that Hannah was born in Ipswich,Suffolk.
-
Hi Shannon
Yes, C of E is church of England and all those regsiters are online (link given in above post) for Rochester and nearby parishes.
Are you descended from George and Hannah or are they an offshoot from your branch?
Casalguidi
-
Descended on my Grandmother's side of the family - they would be her great great great grandparents.
-
Ok, do you have the family on all the census ie. 1841 right through to 1901?
Casalguidi
-
I don't have all the census records - I'm still new to this and thanks to all the people who have helped me so far I have a few census sites, but I don't always have luck and when it comes to pay sites I give them a miss because most of the sites are in ponds or dollars and the exchange rate is not too hot. It would cost me a fortune that I don't currently have to get access to all of them. Hence I have asked people for help.
-
Shannon, if you would like some help in finding the family in all the census years to make sure that you're on the right track then do post the family as you know it should appear in 1901 and somebody will take a look for you.
Best wishes

Below are all the children baptised to George and Hannah Osborn at the Bethel- Wesleyan Chapel Rochester from the IGI. You already know their son George was born in Rochester and was a Wesleyan Methodist Minister and that his father George was a draper and died in 1836. I appreciate about cost but £3.50 to get sent electronically almost immediately George the elder's PCC will from the National Archives, which would hopefully clear up which of his children were still alive and what the married names of his daughters were is a small but extremely useful investment. Armed with that knowledge other researchers could help you find information about them from the later censuses. Most of us would jump at the chance of finding a will of one of our ancestors, exchange rate or no exchange rate - £3.50 is a lot cheaper than buying a certificate and usually gives a lot more information.

George Osborn the son varies his place of birth on the censuses between Rochester Kent where he was born and Chatham Kent where presumably he spent some of his childhood but he is fairly consistent on his age and a birth of circa 1808.
