I see that he had a child aged 10 in 1871, born in Baumber.  This is unfortunate as the 1861 census for Baumber doesn't seem to exist any more.  Part of that Census book is missing.

Further complications-
1) MARSHALL is a very common name in Lincs - over 500 in 1851 - too many to look at them all.
2) There are at least 3 WALCOTs in Lincs.

I'll look at the Walcots in 1841 in the hope of finding him with his family (and to establish which Walcot!).  If I can find him there, I will try the same place in 1851.

UPDATE: the Walcot near Billinghay has three isolated Marshalls, all a bit older than Chas, all single.

UPDATE 2: the Walcot near Alkborough has no Marshalls.  Alkborough itself has  John + Jane and a Jane, all aged 60.

UPDATE 3: Walcot (south of Sleaford) has no Marshalls.

It shouldn't be too long till Ancestry put 1851 online; it should be easy for someone to find him then.

thanks for info, I have always thought it's the Walcot near Billinghay. The whole family are centered around Hemingby and common family name Elias/George.I do not know what info on 1841/51 census or if as in later census returns you can isolate individual info. Thanks any way I will look forward to 1851 coming online.Vanessa

Age given as 20 indicates an age of 20-24 as ages were supposed to be rounded DOWN.

thanks alot for info unfortunately this charles on the 1841 census is my old chesnut that i keep tracing this one is on all subseqent census returns as being born around 1818/1819 which makes total sense as to your latest info.

My Charles I can find on the 1871 census but that's all.He is one of those reletives that seem to have disapeared of the offical documentation. The other complication is that this Charle's first was  a Jane as is my Charle's wife.

My other great hope was the 1861 census but my Charles was in Baumber then and their census books are missing. Oh well i'll keep trying. Sorry to ramble but the other hope was the parish records for Walcot, but these  are not held in the Lincoln Archive can anyone advise on this thanks a bunch Vanessa

I guess I ought to give you the isolated MARSHALLs in Walcot (Billinghay) in 1841 and you can do with them what you wish - perhaps one day they may tie in!  ;)

Edward MARSHALL 50 Male servant, Lincs

Thomas MARSHALL 20 Tailors Apprentice, Lincs

Mary MARSHALL 20 Fem Servant, Lincs

Richard MARSHALL 24 AgLab, Lincs

In Billinghay:

Eleanor MARSHALL 30 Lincs (No occ given)
