According to census records my ancestor Thomas PAGE was born about 1803 in Boughton under Blean, Kent. I've searched all the microfilmed church records for this area that I can find - and his baptism isn't there.
By 1837 at least he is in Chilham Kent. At the baptisms of his daughters Anne in 1837 and Sarah in 1840, Thomas is listed as "labourer from Shottenton" His wife was Emily FINN.
In the 1851 and 1861 census his birth place is given as Boughton Blean
In the 1871 and 1881 census his birth place is given as Boughton
He died shortly after the 1881 census. Is there anywhere else I can check for his birth records? This is one of my biggest brick walls that I haven't been able to crack in several years.
Thanks!

Do you know where he married Emily Finn ?? I often find they either marry in one of the two parishes they were from.
I have Page's in my Godden tree, that come from around the Faversham area, but its quite a common name in that part of Kent.
Emily Page b 1849 Teynham, she married in Ospringe to Edwin Godden from Luddenham.

Hi!
This is my family -- Thomas Page Sr is my ancestor. His wife was Emily Finn born Chilham, but she was not living with him in 1861 - she was on her own with other children.
Eldest son was William born Molash so that's right. All the children born after 1857 (William, Elizabeth, Sophia) are the children of this son William and his wife ELizabeth born Attlebridge
I have not yet found the marriage of Thomas Page and Emily Finn but the first child I can find for them is William b ca 1834 Molash. All the rest were born in Chilham.
Thanks for the idea of checking the parishes where they were born for their marriage - I did check Boughton under Blean but found nothing. Maybe Molash where their first child was born?

The census states Thomas as Head and Elizabeth as wife !!!
Is it not possible that he remarried ?

It's possible he remarried but Emily (his wife) was alive in 1871 and 1881 census (altho living separate from him)
However I have bapt. records for 3 children of William PAGE (Thomas & Emily's son) b circa 1834/35 in Molash. His wife was Elizabeth, and the children are Sophia, Elizabeth and Robert. The dates of birth for Sophia and Elizabeth match the Sophia and Elizabeth in the 1861 census. Robert wasn't born til 1862 so he would not show up in the '61 census.
Oh, here's some circumstantial evidence -- in 1871 my Thomas, was a lodger, listed as married but living alone in the house of Susannah Epps.
In 1871 Thomas' son William PAGE is found with wife Elizabeth and children Sophia 12,
Elizabeth 10,Robert 8,and 4 others. So here we see the same family group that was with Thomas in 1861.
So I think that there was some error by the 1861 census taker perhaps
Thank you so much for your time and effort on this Adrian! I really appreciate your help.

Hi Eillo. Just joined Rootschat and saw your post re: the Page family of the Chilham area. My ancestors (Topley) not only lived in Chilham but also married into the local Page family. My ancestor Nicholas Topley alias Tapley had a sister Martha who married a Thomas Page from nearby Chartham in the late 1600s. Quite probably a family link with your Sarah Page, i should think.
I live in Ashford, not far from Chilham and we often go there to clean up our one remaining family tombstone, that of our ancestor's brother Thomas Topley. (We also visit the very old & interesting pub next door.)
Hope to hear from you soon, regards
Colin Topley

Hi Colin
I wish our family had more stories so that we might know if Topley was a surname connected to our direct Page line! But it does sound likely, given the location. How I envy you being so near! I'm in Canada, not much chance of getting to Chilham I think :-)

Hi Eillo
As this is such an old request, just wondering if you have made any progress only I see a few Thomas PAGE baptisms in nearby parishes that might warrant investigation should you still be looking http://www.familysearch.org (select Record Search Pilot)
