Title: Clint, West Yorks, birth registers
Post by: Louise1 on Wednesday 21 September 05 14:17 BST (UK)
I have been looking for ages for Alfred Calvert's birth record so I can get a certificate. I believe he was born around 1897 in Clint to Young Gideon and Eliza Calvert. I have checked on 1837online for 1895 1896 and 1897 but no joy. Does anyone have any ideas or live near where they keep the registers for that district and might be able to have a look for me (I do not live near Yorkshire). I would be very grateful for any help.

Thank you.

Thanks very much Wendy for pointing out  Young G. Calvert. I've known his name for such a long time now that I forgot it may appear a bit odd!! Thanks also for the address. I'm grateful to you Moira for finding Alfred for me. Can I just confirm that Wharfdale is the registration district for Clint or do you think he was registered there in passing like you can do nowadays? I'm sorry to appear abit dim but all the districts seem so muddling to me and I've recently paid out for a certificate for another person in what I thought was the right district only to find a totally different person of the same age but with the same name!!

Louise1

what I would do in this case is contact the office in Harrogate

Bilton House, 31 Park Parade, Harrogate, HG1 5AG.
Tel: 01423 506949. Fax: 01423 502105.

by snail mail and ask them if they could please check to see if they have a birth registered for

Alfred Calvert born 1897ish in CLINT and specify both parents names that way then you will only get the cert if it is a match on at least three counts

They are usually kind enough to look and as you want the cert they will then give you a reference to then send them a cheque or however you chose to pay for the certificate.
