I am trying to find if there are Boyce family members buried at St Ilan church , Eglwysilan near Pontypridd.
I have been upto the church but many graves have no inscriptions on them.
I think this is the correct church which is ontop of the mountain between Pontypridd Common and the Hendredenny area of Caerphilly.
This area on the east side of the river taf in Pontypridd was known as the Parish of Eglwysilan for the census records.
I have been told a Boyce family member walked to the church on a regular basis to visit a grave of a family relative. But dont know who.
I am also missing a burial of a Grt Grt Grandmother in 1906 named Jane Boyce who it may very well be buried there.
anybody have the records of this churchyard please!

i assumed it was the church of St Ilan but obviously not.
It is by the pub on Eglwysilan Mountain top..
Cant remember the name.
St Marys church is the one on the hill upi to Graig yr Helffa.
Could be in any of the around there.

Many years later I have stumbled across this post, did you ever find your information - the church is definately called St Illan and its right next to a pub called The Rose and Crown
I was looking for a grave there once - didnt find it but thats another story ! But anyway, I think you can find a phone number online for the church and you would be able to ask if the person you are looking for is buried there and if so where the grave is and does it have a headstone on it ....
No doubt you already have your info by now all these years later LoL

Many thanks,
I have actually been up to the church myself but like yourself unable to find anything.
The church was looked up and was unable to find anything further on my relatives who may be buried there from the 1900's.
I am still missing the burial of Jane Boyce in 1906 , cant find her anywhere.

Eglwysilian is a big area - and unfortunately it means the burial could be anywhere - the one I was looking for was actually in St Martins, Caerphilly - but I have a list of burials in St Martins up until 1909 and your one isnt there either sorry ....
Keep on looking one day you will find it !!

Thanks for that.
My Boyce family lived at Rockingstone Terrace on Pontypridd Common which fell within the parish of Eglwysilan which could be a possibility for a burial at there or Glyntaf.
But I cannot find her burial anywhere and know she definately died in 1906 because I have her death certificate , but unfortunately it does not state where the burial was being held.
I have a full list of Boyce burials at Glyntaf but it is not on the list.
Perhaps I should try Boice instead of Boyce incase it has been put in the registar wrong..

The Death certificate is 15th May 1906 Jane Boyce 82 year .
Widow of Joseph Boyce ( although he is only listed as William everywhere else ).
There is a possability of her burial with her husband who we think may have died in the 1880's in Somersetshire.
It is a bit of a mystery ???

Yes please,
I did gather a list when i first started researching over 7 years ago of my Boyce family in Pontypridd area.
If it is easy to gather any info on the Boyce family in the Pontypridd area would be much appreciated as more info could have been added without my knowledge.
I believe my Boyce relatives came over from Ditcheat and Evercreech in Somersetshire after the 1871 census was taken.. They lived in Pentrebach Road and Jones Tce which was renamed Rockingstone Tce which fell under the Eglwysylan Parish as it is the East side of the Taff River running through Pontypridd.
I will have to try and find out who the childrens parents were at a later date. I know there is a large square grave in Glyntaf cemetery with about 7 Boyce children in.
Many Thanks

Thanks everybody for all your previous help.
I am still looking for the final resting place of Jane Boyce nee Walker ( came from West Pennard / Ditcheat Somerset around 1890 ) who died in Pontypridd 1906 .
I have obtained a copy of her Death Certificate but i cannot find her burial / cremation anywhere .
I have just been on to the St Ilan Church Eglwysilan a few moments ago and its now showing the following under the Family History tab :
The completed Registers for Baptisms, Marriages and Burials are all deposited with the Glamorgan Records Office in Cardiff, where they may be consulted freely.
The current registers that are still in use are naturally kept in the benefice. Unfortunately the Burial Ground Plan - which would locate the position of graves - has been lost some time ago, this means that unless the grave has a surviving headstone then the precise location would not be identifiable. However, there is a record of the headstones and a plan compiled by the Glamorgan Family History Society in 1994 which is available in Saint Ilan's Church, Eglwysilan; if a headstone was in existence at that time.
If you would like to consult the records please contact the Glamorgan Records Office to arrange this. They also provide a search service if you are unable to visit them.
Appreciate all the help and info provided over the 14 years i've been researching my Boyce and other family trees.
Regards,
Dave Boyce
