Good afternoon folks
Started this week's diary but I will be back later no doubt.

As I - accidentally, propelled by two hungry cats - got up early, looked in here - a lovely day, perfect for getting those darn weeds sprouting all over between paving, after all the rain recently - but I know I'll have to "do" Sainsburys today..... boo!
Printer being naughty, too, today. Nuisance.

After yesterday's pouring with rain till about 5pm it is beautiful today,we all needed rain so can't complain.
Sometimes modern machines play up for no reason, sometimes I wonder whether to return to pen and paper when the computer or printer gives up.
I did have a programme whereby I could do all sorts of things for posters for the church, that has died on me, I suspect it is now outdated but not found a new programme yet , must admit I don't like change very much,would have preferred to have kept the old programme.
Where is everyone this week?.

We too have had torrential rain ,I keep looking at the forecasts to see if Suffolk is getting some rain,but really very little .Daughter says all pastures are dry and vegetation flagging.
Who remembers a plan to get water to The Sahara? Well not piped but the theory was as trees attract rain a good thick line of trees would attract rain ,a lady started it off,I can remember it on iT.V..Not heard anymore of it though.
It was a sound theory according to experts.
When you think of all the hedgerows that have been destroyed to accommodate the huge combine harvesters etc it is no wonder Suffolk is getting very little rain .
With the example of the dust bowl in The U.S.ie no grazing bison ,so no manure, scrub cleared ,no hedges only fences ,it was a man made disaster.
On a smaller scale here but nevertheless the same outcome ,less rain!
I remember in Geography at school learning about a line across the U.S. it defined the area suitable for growing cotton ,which needs something like 200 frost free days ,that is most probably not the correct number ,it is 78 years ago!
I thought it might have been The Mason Dixon line but looked that up and that was more political.
A bright cool day here,awaiting a phone call from Dr, drugs review .

Hi Viktoria,
I think you are referring to the "Cotton Belt"
which traditionally included the eastern Southern States (Alabama, Georgia, the Carolinas)
In more modern times, the Belt has shifted westward, now comprising California, Arizona, New Mexico
And cotton STILL needs its 200 frost free days!
So, full marks to you!

Well yesterday was very wet… much needed of course and grass looking a little greener.
My OH came home early from golf looking something like a drowned rat so no need to wash his kit 😂😂.
Later in the day it did brighten up somewhat so got a quick load of washing on the line!
Today a little brighter but there is a definite chill in the air..
we went to Woodstock to meet friends at a delightful old establishment called The Trout on the Thames for lunch… always good to catch up with dear old friends with three of us celebrating birthdays in the next 7 days despite quite a long drive for lunch!
Technology is a wonderful thing until it isn’t!
‘Why has it done that’
a common comment made when things get updated and change the workings of what we’re used to or don’t work at all!
My printer has suddenly decided to print everything in red when I chose black and the ink cartridges are not old ones 🤷♀️… very annoying.
I’ve never known so many updates on my phone and iPad that I can’t keep up with it all.. are they actually improving anything or just using up the battery life.. I’m no techie so one has to just put up with these things..
Hope you find your specs Viktoria… one pair in every room can be very helpful !

Recovery from Hip op going satisfactorily and am getting near to a point where I can start my decluttering exercise in the garage, which I had used as an office for a number of years, amongst other things. Got rid of the tumble dryer and old freezer which were both taking up a lot of room and located their replacements in the bungalow utility area. Can now restart on the paper files and other associated baggage.
Any suggestions as to what to do with old holiday brochures- sentimental value but I don't like throwing too much away too soon!
Weather not too bad down here in the Mendip foothills but how long will it last? rj

Wonder if the holiday brochures could be used at the sessions some hospitals and homes have, ie objects to talk about such as old flat irons,a ” posser” ie the thing our grandmas used in the wash tub to get the clothes clean etc .A flat iron put to the fire to get heated so clothes could be ironed .
The brochures could be a talking point perhaps .
Anything to stimulate memories and recall is very good for the elderly and they brighten up and get quite interested.
I was pretty ruthless when I moved and I am heartbroken now at what I did get rid of.Oh memories!
Mine was done in a rush but I do advise taking time to think a bit then think again.

Hi All
Mowed the lawn (meadow grass really) at weekend, looking nice and tidy, but now my back is playing up again.
Jeff, just save the relevant pages into a folder and send the brochures for recycling.
Caroline, what is it with Golfers who play on ::) in the rain. Cricket and Tennis play stops and they are usually pulling the covers over.
Wimbledon close the roof on Centre Court and just looked it up, it takes about 10 minutes, but even with the roof shut play does not resume until the air stabilises.
Yesterday, I needed something to make me laugh, so I typed in Comedians on Youtube and got the following line up:-
I had to keep putting it on hold and looking up most of the by a names as I was determined to write them down and here they are 1 to 10, trouble is all the laughing hurt my brain seriously and suffering a bit this am:-

The only two I could remember was Sarah Millican and Keven Bridges.
Micky and Mr Mountford gave clues and mentioned themselves in their jokes and one said this is _____ and good night, so on the original recording he was at the end of the original show.
I had a terrible job with Ardal O'Hanlon despite recognising his voice, I got two other Irish Comedians on Google but their faces were not right and thought he was on Mrs Brown's Boys [wrong], then when I got his name I think it said he was on Father Ted. After getting his full name, something made me think he had just mentioned Ardal as a place name in one of his gaffs, so I didn't even realise he had dropped a clue a few moments before.
I got Milton Jones by typing into Google 'Comedian one liners' and knew straight away, I just needed a prompt to recall it from deep in the brain!
Yesterday, I didn't have a rain shower here until the afternoon and then it dried up fairly soon. I went out to check my washing and it was almost dry and just beginning to spit with rain (so I timed that walk into the garden brilliantly) and got it in, in two visits to the garden, with a bulging pocket full of pegs twice :)
L.M., nothing beats the old pen and paper.
Such a shame Victoria, ripping out a lot of the hedgerows.

After I'd done Sainsburys on Wednesday morning, I went out and actually managed to weed the bits between the paving stones on the area nearest the back door - no mean feat, actually, although my knees didn't enjoy it! As it's the smallest of our paved areas, there's a lot more to do today if the weather lets me. Lopped off lots of overhanging branches bot always wisely. Warm enough to have our pre-prandial slurp out on the paved area, at the table there. Lovely. Absolutely beautiful sunrise this morning.

Well done ,weeding in areas like that is hard,the roots seem even tougher and not much space to get a good grip.
I had my dogwoods cut back, brutally!
Now they need better fine pruning ,strange to say most have the red stems but there are some lime green ones, can’t make out if they are on the same bush,but I doubt it.
My little Cox’s tree has 18 apples this year,the Bramley only four, but birds got a good few of the flower buds, chaffinches I think.
So much rain earlier in the year has resulted in moss patches in the artificial grass!
I believe vinegar is a good cure,I will look it up.
Salt can seemingly damage the backing!
A cold wet morning here and I have washing to do ,it might ckear up.
I watch the weather forecasts to see if rain is getting to the South East ( Suffolk)but the big blue clouds all pass by over Kent .
Well things to do and it is really cold here so I must get moving .

My way of dealing with the weeds between slabs - pull as much as possible out and then pour some salt into the remains and leave it to do its job! :-*
