Title: Diary summary week ending 28th June 2025
Post by: louisa maud on Monday 22 June 26 12:12 BST (UK)
Here we go again folks with another week.

Very overcast this morning,  a bit muggy but we have had a breeze, sky clearing  so I think we are I for a hot afternoon, washing loving the breeze earlier.

We have a very exciting weekend coming,  2 people from our church are engaged and are having a blessing on Sunday, everyone is so pleased for them, they really are a lovely  couple, both widower and widow  I believe so it is really nice for 2 people to find happiness again .

Lunch time looming  so I had better jump to it.

Take care, keep cool.

Washed and dried two cellular blankets this morning.  They are now back on the bed, having had a good baking in the hot sun.  There was a surprise shower with heavy raindrops later in the afternoon, for which the plants will have been most grateful, though it only lasted about half an hour.

Our surgery sent a "Hot weather advice" text round to those patients who use ace inhibitors and diuretics, such as Lisinopril and Indapamide, urging us to drink plenty of fluids throughout the day and to keep out of the sun in the middle of the day.  I'm doing my best to keep cool and staying indoors in cooler rooms, though my husband has to go up to Exeter on an essential journey tomorrow. I would have loved to go with him, but not at these temperatures!  My daughter and her friends are celebrating their 50th birthdays by spending last weekend in a tent at the Isle of Wight Festival, followed by a few days on Corsica.  They wanted some sunshine, but perhaps not such heat.

Yesterday we had my favourite salad - pieces of nectarines dressed in balsamic vinegar and olive oil with a finely chopped chilli pepper.  Scattered over them torn basil leaves and chunks of Burrata or Mozarella and a screw of black pepper.  Just the job for a hot day, though my husband demanded some new potatoes with it.  For him no meal is complete without potatoes!

My OH   is a meat and veg man, drives me mad, I waste such  lot  of salad , things don't last very long,  I get fed up with cooking every day.

Well a good day.
Drs. for a check up on a scar from long ago which is still red and flakey .
Then off  to Bury to pick up a book from Waterstones ,for Flash Harry, a “Just William “, book . They were to reserve it for me but no trace yet when I got home an email telling me it was waiting for me at the shop!

Watered the gardens back and front this evening ready for tomorrow’s high temperatures.
I hung some washing out at about five o’ clock ,by seven it was all dry.

I took a hot pot out of thr freezer this teatime to defrost in the fridge for tomorrow.
I must be mad!  38 degrees forecast so who wants flipping hot pot?

No news as yet re my friend ,I did not want to bother her son, he will phone I am sure when there is any news.
But 92 I think ,is a great age to have to go through a major operation , the outlook re indeprndance is not good ,I was totally surprise re what he told me .
Just. One example—- she always maintained she walked her little dog every day ,which was amazing but it seems she didn’t !She thought she did ——-
So some confusion there.
I have a card to send but not sure really the last time I phoned as usual when she answered the phone before I spoke she said “ Hello Viktoria”.so she recognised my number ,yet so much confusion now according to her son.

Well keep safe tomorrow folks ,such high temperatures forecast.
Cheerio, thanks for your news .
Viktoria.

What a night, we had an almighty storm, must have gone on for a few hours,  I checked  the back garden and I had a large puddle in the middle of the lawn,  not seen that for years,  my water butt pipe became dislodged so I only have half  water butt instead of it being  almost overflowing.
It is dull after an hour or so of sunshine earlier, feels oppressive to be honest, no damage to my plants thank goodness but it was a bit of a humdinger of a night.
Viktoria,  please do t worry about your friend, I am sure she is in good hands,  her son will contact you I am sure.
Supposed to be hight temps today so try to keep cool, very lethargic  this weather.

Thanks L.M.
I just could not believe what I was hearing , she was so brisk and busy ,and really had me convinced she was walking her little dog in the sand dunes .
Well we will see.
A stonking hot day here - my doors outside are black so absorb heat, Had to wait last night to lock up they were so swollen.
They do respond to a cold hosing down but that is messy.
Did a big watering last night too, so hopefully nothing wilts today.

Well curry for tea, a fruity one with pineapple so quite light .
Freezer is full so I must use up some dishes from it.

Hope all are taking care in this extreme weather , remember to drink plenty we mature people can easily become confused if dehydrated .
If you pinch up skin on your hand or arm and it stays pinched up for a little while — you are dehydrated!

Thanks for your news folks , recipes and hints ,,helpful tips etc.
And don’t forget to drink plenty.
Cheerio..Viktoria.

Sometimes a good downpour can clear the air a bit on a hot day but perhaps with the heat you're having has made it even more humid LM, does make it uncomfortable to be getting on with anything for sure! Wet but mild today in Auckland and until weekend, humidity in Summer can be a bit much sometimes.

Working way through freezer and supplies here too Viktoria, keeping check on dates stored and limited space.

Very surprised to have received a Jury summons as NZ extended the age allowed to be excused without explanation and I'm a way past that but up to me to decide as there isn't actually a cut off age. I haven't replied yet but will post back by weekend. We had just been discussing number of times called, think this is 4th time for me and husband has never but possibly Fire Service career excused him perhaps. I've had valid excuses previously though did attend a High Court one and went through the first processing but sent home later in morning of first day, others have all been District Court, marginally just inside travel range for 2 of them as this is and other one closer to home.

Must admit jury service was my nightmare but fortunately  never got called,  to late now thank goodness.

The storm we had didn't clear the air,  temperatures back in full force,  unbearable in my opinion, so draining, we are just not used to it.

Viktoria,  you mentioning declutterimg, I try very hard to get rid of things but my husband hangs on to almost everything,  our poor daughter will have the job of clearing out I assume, the garage and shed is a disgrace, I found a photo recently  of over 30 years ago, he still wears the same jumper,  washed in between of course but it drives me mad, I can see at least 2 skips  to cart away his stuff.

I cooked a chicken casserole yesterday,  my husband is a meat and veg man and likes a hot meal, tonight I am not cooking a hot meal, it  is far to hot for so much oven cooking.

Try to keep cool folks, this heat can't last for ever.

As this week the subject title has 2025 in it heading  ;D perhaps we are going backwards  and actually reliving the heatwave of 1976., it's certainly reminiscent of that summer. If it gets any hotter I'm likely to dissolve, there is not the slightest hint of a breeze and visiting cats have been looking for shade in my garden.

I have to clear a display cabinet and move it a few inches for the engineer to get access to the junction box when he comes tomorrow for the switch to fibre and digital. Fortunately my son has come for a few days to help, he didn't think that access could be needed when he had the stairlift installed when I was in hospital ::) the switch is causing so many problems, I have had to change my main email address on a number of sites, some were no problem but others difficult, Ancestry was the worst, it took three hours. They kept telling me to switch off 2 factor-authentication but I couldn't turn off something that wasn't on, I couldn't even tried turning it on jut to be able to turn it off. Thankfully it got sorted in the end, but I was at screaming point and was ready for my wooden box. Why do we have to suffer these asked for changes?

Louisa, not sure what the glitch is but you have kept the wonderful diaries going ,I for one am very grateful to you.
There is no obligation yet you come up trumps almost every Monday.
On occasion another starts it so thanks to those people too .

I just looked up what I said re wet flannels kept in the fridge ,it is the recommended way to cool down, also a wet towel hung in a room will lower the temperature.
Look it up folks .

I have defrosted the hot pot in the fridge overnight —- what a numbskull I am! It might be O.K defrosted until tomorrow but I don’t like to do that really.

I also think sitting in the edge of the bath  with your feet in cold water would be a good thing to do .I know though Inwould get severe cramp !

Do look after yourselves folks ,we mean a good deal to each other.
Viktoria.

Feet in a bowl of water is refreshing, I might slip off the edge of the bath.

Well , let's look forward to cooler weather, we will all feel better  for it

Just washed 2 cellular  blankets, they won't take long to  dry, will cook in this heat

26 degrees already at 10 a.m. here in Devon!  I'm staying indoors with curtains semi-closed and a glass of water by my side.  Tomorrow evening we are supposed to be going to a local society social, but we are waiting to see how the temperatures are before we set out on the 10 minute walk (uphill) to the village hall.  Even 10 minutes in this heat is too much for me!

Keep cool, everyone, whatever it takes (feet in cold bath, wet towel, etc.) and drink lots! :)

For those with fans, if you put a bowl of water in front of the fan the cooling effect will increase. It’s especially helpful if your leg are hot , put the fan and water on the floor. We need very little trick at our disposal in this heat🥵

Louisa, not sure what the glitch is but you have kept the wonderful diaries going ,I for one am very grateful to you.

I’ll second that   ;D

My sister and family live in South Wales where they have a red weather warning.  Yesterday at her grandson’s primary school they were all sitting outside in the shade with their feet in buckets of water. Very sensible but the image did make me chuckle.  Today the school is closing at midday.

Hope everyone manages to keep cool and well hydrated.

I only mentioned the date LM because it got me confused at first, I blame it on the heat as it doesn’t take much to confuse me.  ???

Like everyone else I am grateful for the way you have kept it going. It’s good to read of others news and events even  if not contributing myself. Stuck at home all the time one misses the interaction with others, even if it’s only strangers you meet when shopping. So for you LM 💐

Don't worry J,  good idea, blame it on the heat,  I just feel silly but when I put the date in it comes up and I just the the day and month which I change but I forgot to change the year,  100 lines, I must do better!

I must admit I try to check  the date just in case I get hospitalised  and I have to answer those stupid questions,  apparently  over 65's get the same test, I did OK when I fell over thank goodness

There’s nowt wrong with thee lass!
All you do for your church ——-many will feel as I do, ie you are a really kind helpful person .
I don’t look at the date ,just see” Diary” and wade in , so I am guilty of posting to outdated diaries ——- :-[
Which reminds me I am hoping Roobarb is OK.
Someone mentioned she may on holiday , hope all is well.

Well hotter tomorrow is tonight’s forecast, managed to keep thehouse relatively cool today and apart from our evening meal have done very little.
Take care again tomorrow and probably up to Friday .
Thanks for your news folks .
