Grandmother was Florence Buckton thought to be from Darlington, lived in Hull as an adult and married Tom (Thomas) Batty of Hull. Florence born about 1900 and Tom about 1850 (how's that for an older man then!). Can find very little about either, Tom was a waterman. Florence died about 1962 and Tom in the 1930s. These were my mother's parents but she knows absolutely nothing about them, they appear to have had no other family. I think Tom may have been married before to a woman called Henrietta.

Doesn't help with your grandmother, but for your grandfather's first marriage this looks like a possibility, although it depends how sure you are about the first marriage:
From the 1881 Census
Thomas BATTY Head M Male 31 Hull, York, England Waterman
Henrietta BATTY Wife M Female 31 Hull, York, England
Ralph BATTY Son Male 6 Hull, York, England Scholar
Thomas BATTY Son Male 4 Hull, York, England Scholar

Wilson J. BATTY Son Male 3 m Hull, York, England

Thanks for 1881 census info on tom Batty. I have traced him this far and the appearance of the name Henrietta makes me think he is the right one. I cannot find anything for him before 1881 though, I suppose he could have been elsewhere 1871 but would have expected to find him 1861. Thanks again.

Just did a quick search on FreeBMD for Thomas Batty, marrying in Hull in the 1870s, one of the results leads to:
Marriages Mar 1872
~~~~~~~~
Batty Thomas Hull 9d 335
ECCLES William Hull 9d 335
Harrison John Hull 9d 335
MATTHEWS Sarah Hull 9d 335
Robinson Henrietta Hull 9d 335
It seems quite possible this could be your THomas Batty and Henrietta. You could maybe get that marriage certificate, it should give some useful information.
