Looking for Family Graves and Local History

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to find the graves of my 3rd and 4th great-grandfathers. I believe they may be buried at

St. Cathen’s Church, Llangathen, near Llandeilo in the Carmarthen area.

    • John Griffiths (c.1827 – 1 Feb 1897) – my 3rd great-grandfather. He lived at a place called Three Compass in the Llangathen area.

    • Morgan Griffiths (c.1780 – 8 Mar 1860) – my 4th great-grandfather.

I’ve looked at the parish burial records but haven’t been able to locate their graves when I visited. I’m wondering if anyone knows whether their graves are still there, or if there are any tips on where to look. Or map of the Grave yard.

Also, I’m curious about Three Compass: does anyone know where it was, whether it’s still standing, or what the building looks like today?

Any help or information would be hugely appreciated!

Many thanks,
Damian Healey

have you tried contacting the church itself? They may have a plan of the graves.

On the 1891 census, Three Compasses comes after the Vicarage & Berllandywyll and before  Llangathen shop & Rock House which may be Rock Cottage on this map.

The map given by Osprey looks correct to this reply in 2009, did you miss the communication?

Also there is mention in newspaper of death of wife in 1910 buried at local church. In some news articles it is called Three Compasses Inn.
