Title: Date and age for a doctor
Post by: 4b2 on Wednesday 18 March 26 17:50 GMT (UK)
Hello,

I am usually pretty good at dating photos, but I think this one has been mislabelled.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Maybe early 1900s.
The doctor has a young face but greyish hair.
Is he Indian?
Maybe 40-50.??

This is where it becomes confusing. It's listed as a man born in 1882. I think I would have also dated it around 1905, but I have been biased by other info. So he would be about 27. His father was born in 1850, so would be about 55. It does look like his father, but it does look a bit different. And yet his father was not grey at 50. So I'd just assume he maybe greyed very early. If you take the hair out, I'd say more like 35-37.

He's an Anglo-Indian.

Do you have the original photo as this looks like it has been restored, not a wrinkle in sight which usually shows some of the character of the sitter and an indication of age? Too clean and fresh to be old. it is a lovely one to own.

Yes. But it doesn't make any difference in terms or dating. The original just has some rusty stains on it.
