Post by: ciderdrinker on Tuesday 17 March 26 12:00 GMT (UK)
Hi
Brilliant to be back ! Hope someone can help with the following.
James  Shakespeare  married Harriet Fenton at St Pauls Smethwick 1897
https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5f725ef0f493fdb896376a9f/harriett-fenton-james-shakespeare-marriage-staffordshire-west-smethwick-1897-04-08?locale=en

They are together on the 1911 census with their children on the Oxford Road.
No sign 1901 (Should be Oldbury Road)or 1921.
Harriet is with her daughter in law Gertrude 79 Banbury Road 1939 and is a widow.
Possible death for James 1868-1938.

No sign of him before marriage or after 1914 when he is discharged from the Army.
He's not the son of John and Caroline but struggling to see an alternative.Needs to be father James Shakespeare born c 1868/1870.

Can any one track him down?

Afternoon Ciderdrinker

There is one possible on the 1871 census born 1866 father James mother Ann it doesnt look like anyone of that name was born in 1868 next one is born 1870 and his father is Thomas

Only other possibility is that he was illegitimate and used his fathers name on the marriage certificate but was know by something else before

If I'm looking at the correct Army record, it has his age as 44 years and 108 days on 21 September 1914. This puts his birth as 5 June 1870. But maybe this record is for the son of John and Caroline (nee MOLYNEUX)?

Will keep looking ...
