Title: Garvagh Reformed Presbyterian Church?
Post by: Gortinanima on Thursday 05 March 26 09:04 GMT (UK)
I have a reference for someone who belonged to Garvagh Reformed Presbyterian Church in 1886.

I am not aware of any reformed Presbyterian churches in Garvagh.

I think Drimbolg Reformed is the nearest reformed Presbyterian church but it is in Tamlaght O'Crilly parish - any ideas anyone?

There was, for a time, a Reformed Presbyterian Church in Garvagh. Can't remember the dates off hand. Have never come across any records (baptisms and marriages) for it. Possibly some of the families that did go there transferred to Ballylaggan R.P, Church.

According to Genuki it was in Bridge Street. I don't see any newspaper mentions of it, or its  incumbent the Rev James Littlejohn, after 1891.

I see Derry genealogy on RootsIreland has marriages online for Garvagh Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1889-1937.

The death entry I have 1886 states for many years a Ruling Elder in the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Garvagh.

Julia E Mullin Presbytery of Coleraine page 107 on Third Garvagh Presbyterian Church -

History of Third Garvagh Presbyterian Church

This congregation split from Main Street, Garvagh in 1809 over Regium Donum.

In 1863 this congregation together with Ballylintagh & Benvarden was received into the General Assembly as Third Garvagh, a member of Coleraine Presbytery, but this caused a split in the congregation, those who objected to this union leaving to join the Reformed Presbyterians.

The Reformed Presbyterian Church in Garvagh was at the present 5 Kilrea Road which is now the Garvagh Veterinary Clinic.
Many mentions in various newspaper reports including in Nov.1924 the re-opening of the church after renovations.
