Hi mainly trying to establish parents of William Henry Faith who married in 1871 Sunderland to Jane Calvert Coundon. Census records have him in Sunderland 1881 born 1844 in Sussex and 1901 born 1844 in Earnley, Sussex. The only births I can find are both registered as William Faith born 1840 or 1848 registered in Westhampnett, Sussex which covers Earnley. There is an 1861 census record for William Faith born 1842 Earnley showing him onboard a ship on the night of the census which would appear to be correct as his occupation in 1901 is shown as Master Mariner. Anyone have access to the marriage record !

What occupation does he have in 1881/1891 and 1911 if he was around?
Was he married before the 1871 census or after? Marriage details would be helpful.

The page number shown for the marriage entry - 815 - suggests to me a Register Office marriage.

A burial of William Faith, age 64, master mariner, died at the infirmary, buried Sunderland cemetery (AKA Grangetown) 17 Apr 1904
Doesn't help with parent but you do get a year of birth to work with.
Mostly records on line are from parish registers and if he married in a register office then you would have to order the certificate.

William Faith age 27 born 1844 Chichester Sussex appears on “UK and Ireland masters and mates certificates”
24 Feb 1871 Sunderland

The 1840 birth, which could be the 1861 you have, appears to belong to George & Fanny.
Baptism 5 April 1840 Birdham Sussex
He is with those parents in 1841/1851

that 1840 birth registered Westhampnett Union has mother maiden name of Keates

I do believe the 1840 birth is the correct one and I have the parents as George Faith and Fanny Keates. The census birth dates were what was confusing me (i.e 1844). Also the death of 1904 age 64 helps although the GRO index shows age at death 60 !

You need to buy a copy of the marriage cert to establish his fathers name & occupation. The 1840 birth reg only shows him as William so perhaps Henry was added later.
