Post by: stoop on Tuesday 03 March 26 11:45 GMT (UK)
According  to the 1921 census Nellie smith my great aunt was a professional singer. She was a daughter of Arthur Smith and Sarah ann bland.she was my grandmothers  sister. Iam interested in finding out more about Nellie and her singing career in 1921 she was around 21, she died in 1944 at Keighley. I hope someone will have some knowledge of this lady.

Have you found her in 1939 register?
Did she die as Smith? I can’t see a death in 1944 in that name with the year of birth as the 1921 record.

I think her birth is 1890 which ties in with a 1944 death age 55 - although the 1921 census lists her as 26  :-\

Added  SMITH, NELLY    mmn    BLAND
GRO Ref 1890  M Quarter KEIGHLEY  Vol 09A  Page 179

Wonder why the age is that wrong in 1921  :-\

There might be something in a local newspaper about her singing if she used her real name.
Probably a lot of Nellie Smith reports.

There are numerous reports in Newspapers referring to a singer named Nellie Smith, but may not be the same person.

One in 1922 in Sheffield.
