Probably more to find if you have not got all the family info

Easy to see the confusion here, some records say Gill, others say Gills, the headstone for Joseph & Jane ( Both died in 1911 ) in Old Edgewell Cemetery, Prudhoe is engraved Gill.
I have Joseph marrying Jane Scott in 1865.
I don't think the Robinson family living in Jesmond is ours.
The info re Hannah - John Robinson looks correct, Elizabeth - John Hawkins also looks spot on.
Matthew married Jane Hall 1897, can't find any marriage for William. I think Mary Ann married in 1892.
Thank You for all the assistance, I'll keep looking !!!. to Jacob Maughan but this one is a bit tenuous, Jane married 1905 lexander Keenleyside, Thomas married Mary E Shield

There was this written where they wrote about William
GILL, William (Service number 49975)
Biographical Notes
William Gill stated that he had been in New Zealand for five years when he enlisted on 31 January 1917 at Timaru. He had been called up in 1916. William was residing at "Ettrick Bank", High Street, Timaru, and was employed as a clerk for Priest & Holgate. He was the son of Joseph and Jane Gill, both deceased. It appears that he may have been the William Gill (or Gills) born in 1876 at Prudhoe, Northumberland. This William was at home with his family at Prudhoe, in 1911 there being only William, a clerk, and his widowed father. His mother probably died in early 1911, aged 71 years; and his father Joseph, a coal miner, on 1 October 1911 at West Wylam, aged 72 years
Previous Military Experience
Marital Status Single
Next of Kin Mr George B. TODD (friend), Greytown, Wairarapa; Mr Thomas GILL (brother), Prudhoe-on-Tyne, Northumberland, England
Religion Church of England

The info re William seems to tie in nicely, Thomas was his younger Brother, he was in Prudhoe pretty much all his life. Great find !!!.

Re : William Gill b 1876 Just when you think you have cracked it ! I have found in 1939 Roll :
William Gill b 1876 living at 29 Stanhope Street, Greenside Co. Durham with Widowed Sister Elizabeth Hawkins ( Nee Gill ). Need more info on this one, did he return from New Zealand, did he ever go ? It's quite a puzzle.

Corrrect, that is the Gill/ Gills I am looking at, it all checks out, the mystery is, where was William betwen 1911 and 1939, did he go to New Zealand and, if so, did he return, puzzling, frustrating but that's genealogy for you !.

That’s the problem with having 2 posts, William was in uk 1931

The emigration info looks quite feasable, so is it possible went out to New Zealand in 191 and then returned to be back in UK by 1931 ???? Need to dig deeper I'm afraid. Hoping electoral rolls will help.

I have chosen to reply on this one of the two running threads ( which situation is causing an amount of juggling I think) :o.
But now that the initial outward voyage has been located it is noteworthy that the death of William's father Joseph took place on 1st October 1911 ( previously given) and probate was granted within weeks.
Perhaps there was a bequest to William which enabled to take his voyage to NZ before the end of that year.

Joseph Lee, the tailor to whom probate was granted, can be seen on the census pages at Newcastle upon Tyne for the years before 1911, a married man with 5 children.
In 1901.Address 49 Ann Street. His wife is Elizabeth, possibly nee MAVEN with a marriage is 1871.
In 1911 he lives (somewhat coincidentally!) at 110 Gill Street Newcastle Upon Tyne. a working tailor.
His address is about 4 or 5 miles I think from the home of Joseph GILL at Wylam.

There's a W Gill arriving in New Zealand in November 1911 on the SS Ramuera from London.
I think I meant the SS Remuera!
Anyway on the outgoing passenger list he seems to be transcribed on ancestry as Mr W Usill
Travelling 3rd class. No age given, but he is single, and a Clerk.
Interestingly the Remeura is said to have departed London on the 29th September, which is a couple of days before William Gill's father was buried in Prudhoe.
-
To be fair to ancestry, it is slightly scrawly handwriting.
The capital G reminds me of how we were taught to write it at school when we were learning to do "joined up" writing (which apparently is really called "cursive" writing!)
