Hi,
I am trying to find the birth and parents of Thomas George William New b. 1902, most likely New Zealand who died in Lower Hutt New Zealand in 1965.
He had a son Frederick Wallace New b. 1929 who died in NZ in 2014.
I am trying to find the family link, to see if Thomas George William New migrated from England, maybe the Berkshire area.
I would appreciate any assistance please. Thanking you so much. Jan

Nothing showing up on the NZ BDM website for his birth. Died 18 March 1965 aged 63.
Could he be this one
NEW, THOMAS GEORGE WILLIAM mmn HEADFORD
GRO Reference: 1901 M Quarter in MARYLEBONE Volume 01A Page 553
A Frederick Thomas NEW married a Sarah HEADFORD Dec qtr 1900 Marylebone.
It would appear that this couple came to NZ. They had a son Christopher Charles born Paddington 1906, birth registered march qtr 1907, who died in NZ in 1976, birthdate given on Death index of 15 Dec 1906.
There was a daughter Doris Irene as well birth registered Paddington March qtr 1906. She died in NZ in 1992, with birthdate given of 8 December 1905.
Arrived before 1911 when a son Albert Edward was born here in NZ. He died in WW2.

According to 1901 census the parents were both born London, so no Berkshire connection there by the look of it.

Thanks for that information, in fact the News originated from Berkshire, but many moved to Marylebone, London area.
I have a Frederick Wallace New b. 1929 who died in NZ in 2014. Maybe I have the wrong parents then. Frederick Wallace New married June McKenzie b. 1931 and she died in 2019 in NZ.
I really need to find the correct family line with a DNA match that I have with one of the descendants of Frederick Wallace New.

Thank you, that's great, confirms the family line. I need to go further back now.
So Frederick Wallace New was born some years after their arrival in New Zealand, as the first three children born 1906, and 1911. Big gap to 1929.

Images of TGW New's baptism as well as those of his sister and brother, plus their parents marriage are on Ancestry.

Thank you so much, will get back on to Ancestry. Have you been able to find any migration records for Thomas GW New and his wife Sarah Headford?
Jan

Sarah Headford was TGW New's mother, not wife.

Hi janjim
The following is probably the NEW family arriving in Wellington in 1908.
Ship : "Athenic" - departed from London
NEW - T. - aged 27 - Occ: Painter - destined for Wellington NZ
Mrs NEW - 27 years
NEW - Master T - 7 years
NEW - Miss I.* - 2 years [* possibly aforementioned child named "Doris Irene" ??]
NEW - Master C. aged 1-1/2 years
[ ^ This list is from FamilySearch (NZ Passenger lists) - I couldn't immediately see date of arrival - will go back for another look. ]

"Athenic" - London to Wellington NZ - 1908
Looks like "Athenic" made 3 voyages to NZ during 1908 - arriving early January / mid-May / early October.
Suspect NEW family may have arrived October ?? (v. large number of immigrants on that trip.) Unfortunately dates and even ship's name, missing from headings of this passenger list - so it's a matter of scrolling through the many pages of same at FamilySearch for additional info.
TIP : Search on " T. NEW - 1908 " to bring up passenger list :
In the later pages of some of these passenger lists, there may be details of "passage monies paid / or if persons had been sponsored by relatives or friends already resident in the Colony, details of sponsor" :
(Sorry just don't have time at present to check further for you. )
You may like to also try our PapersPast site - although I couldn't immediately see any passengers names in "Athenic" voyage(s) reports. www.paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

Hi Jan
Did you need burial details for the parents of TGW NEW ??

I'm thinking I may have gone off the wrong track with this New family, sorry about this. I've got a DNA match with a New descendant in New Zealand, the family line seems to be from Frederick Wallace New b. New Zealand and died 2014 in New Zealand. There is no further information.
Maybe any information on death records would be better for Frederick New who died in 2014 and I can get the correct family line.
