"Mrs Goulds daughter"  Have you checked the number of births for that name in both England & the Isle of Man for people with that surname?

2 single person entries on the 1921 IOM census but several thousand in England.  The woman in the photo appears to be in her late 40's at least & I can't see a wedding ring

How can anybody determine who she was without knowing her christian name at least?  Who was "Mrs Gould"

Looking on the iMuseum (Manx Newspapers) there was a Mrs Gould (Mrs Edith Annie Gould) of Grand View, Brookhill, Ramsey who died in 1944 (daughters: Elsie and Winnie) and a Mrs Gould (nee Kelly) late of Douglas who advertised for many years a B & B in Tuebrook, Liverpool for Manx visitors to Liverpool.

If you look at Brookhill Road in Ramsey where Grand View is on Google street view it looks like the location in the photograph. A Percy Corlett was later at that address and his wife was Winnie Gould so Winnie appears to be the woman in the photograph:-

The family are in Barrow in Furness in the 1920s. William James Gould (1886-1967 originally from Leicester) married Annie E Taylor (1884-1944 originally from Liverpool) in Plymouth in 1912. Winnie was born in Barrow in Furness in 1913. She married Percy Alexander Corlett (1909-1988) at Lezayre, IOM in 1940. She died in 1983 and is buried at Lezayre, IOM.

Elsie was a well known local swimmer and golfer. It appears she was single and still living at Brookhill in the 1950s so it could be either daughter. More likely Winnie though. A mention of Elsie at Brookhill in 1956:-

Elsie is one of the women in this 1952 photograph (third from left?):-

Elsie was manageress of Cinema House in Ramsey (one of the items in her bag was spectacles so perhaps she is the woman with the glasses in the 1952 photograph?):-

Winnie's Marriage in 1940:-

"Elsie was a well known local swimmer and golfer."

I remember my late father saying "she" had swam the "Channel" referring to the owner of the hotel, maybe he meant the daughter and not Mrs Gould.

Winifred Gould born 8 Aug 1913 at 55 Harrison Street, Barrow to William James Gould, a joiner (journeyman) and Edith Annie Gould (nee Taylor) of same address

in 1921 living at Brewery Inn, 109-113 Cavendish St, Barrow-In-Furness her father is listed as the Licensed Victualler Manager

Elsie Gould born 2 April 1911 at 9 Portland Road, Leicester to William James Lowther Gould, a laundry manager and Edith Annie (nee Taylor) of same address

Elsie Gould may have passed in 2009 (if she didn't marry)

It seems that Edith Annie Gould (nee Taylor) had a mother,  Mary Jane Taylor (nee Wallace) who was also from the Isle of Man and a boarding house keeper, hospitality seems to run in the female line.

I remember my late father saying "she" had swam the "Channel" referring to the owner of the hotel, maybe he meant the daughter and not Mrs Gould.

I can't find a newspaper item about a Channel swim but I did find this:

19 September 1931: Isle of Man Times

Quote
BAY WIN FOR ”TIMES” TROPHIES.
Good Effort by Port Erin Lady.
Five local swimmers made the attempt on Sunday in the Douglas Bay Swim competition for the”Isle of Man Times” trophies. Conditions were by no means ideal, the competitors having to negotiate rough water most of the way, and at Conister the sea was distinetly choppy. The water was also very cold, and one of the swimmers, W. Thompson, gave up half-way across.

From the start Miss M. Lowcock (Port Erin) forged ahead of the others, Miss Gould (Ramsey), Mr A. V. Collins (Douglas), Mr F. C. Lowcock (Port Erin), and Mr W. Thompson (Douglas). By the time she got to the Palace she had a very comfortable lead, and gradually drew away from her nearest rival, Miss Gould, and won with over seven minutes to spare from the Ramsey girl, who was making her first attempt of the season. The ladies, it will be noted, easily outstripped the men swimmers.

Considering the conditions, the times of the competitors are very creditable, and on Sunday’s form Miss Lowcock, should be a very strong contender for ladies’ honours.

The start from Port Jack at 12-35 p.m. was witnessed by quite a number of people. The times of the four competitors to finish were as follows: Miss M. Lowcock 50m 5s
Miss E. Gould 57m 28s
Mr. A. V. Collins 63m 48s
Mr F. C. Lowcock 67m 12s
...
