Title: Free Access to Find My Past Newspapers until 16th February
Post by: Chris Doran on Tuesday 10 February 26 07:20 GMT (UK)
Newspapers only. Stated closing time is 23:59 GMT on Monday 16th February. Sometimes in the past it has not actually gone off until 10am on the following day but don't rely on this.

No special URL required; just login to your account as usual. (You can get free account with no card details taken on registration if you need one.) You do not need to click on the (Start free trial) box at top right.

Note the Terms and Conditions for Free Access Offers (https://www.findmypast.com/help/articles/4411067029777-9-free-access-free-weekends) and a Fair Usage Limit of 200 records per 24 hours (https://www.findmypast.com/help/articles/4411067042577-11-fair-usage), which I found previously was actually reset by 1am the following day regardless of when I started or when I hit it. 200 should be enough for most purposes, but I was having to scan for a section not always found by the search. I can't see any counter to tell you how close you are to the limit or a statement of what counts as a "record"; I'm sure I browsed well over 200 newspaper pages before being stopped.

As always with free periods, save anything of interest on your own device, as you'll need a sub to see it online after the offer closes.

Some of these newspapers are free at all times on FindMyPast or elsewhere, so check before using up too much midnight oil or your record quota. To see, click on Free to View under Filter your search/Access type on the advanced search page.

I haven't done extensive checks. Reply here if you find any restrictions, extra goodies, need help with quirks in the sometimes complex Search, or just to report successes -- a few posts bumps the announcement up so more people may see it.

I received an email about this yesterday, was late when I read it so didn't stay on too long but I found a few interesting items. It's not always easy to spot the highlighted items on the resulting image of the newspaper page but worth persevering.  :)

Thanks Chris.  Something useful for me to do while watching the rain pour down outside.  :)

Sometimes you can find it on the next page, if it might be part of a long article like a court report. If it is on the next page, it won't be highlighted.

Thanks Chris.
Some new pages added since last I looked I think. Found a few pieces not seen before.
Always worth a revisit from time to time.
Keep up the good work!  ;)

Thanks Chris. I can't access the newspaper part of FindMyPast at local libraries so this is a great opportunity to examine all newspaper articles connected to my projects.

I find it best to zoom in once and move the page around looking at each part.  Then I usually spot the highlight.

I screenshot and place the file in my Newspapers folder on my storage device.

I then upload the image to my Ancestry Tree and link it to a custom Fact.

I do have a FindMyPast subscription and apart from the Newspapers and Military Records its use is limited.
