Title: Diary summary week ending 8th February 2026
Post by: louisa maud on Monday 02 February 26 00:49 GMT (UK)
Morning folks.
Start of another new week

Strange weather, we seem to have every other day rain and fine,  quite strange really but it doesn't look quite so good this week..

Think it was on 22nd I visited a local church and was amazed to see daffodils  in full bloom, the only ones I have  seen so far, others locally shouldn't be far behind

Saturday I went to a murder mystery,  was quite interesting,  there was 2 culprits but I only guessed one right one and a query against  2 others, new I was wrong as I only needed one more, was good fun though.

Got a busy week coming up but I have promised myself a day out on Friday, hope that brings good weather.

Take care

LM

Well I hope it's not a murder mystery keeping you up late LM! we've quite enjoyed the couple we've been to some time back, well presented and good whodunnit  :)

Very warm and humid in Auckland today, even a bit of fog about this morning early but just a hint of it our way, overcast all morning and showers in mix this afternoon.

Nice to have plans for the week, ours coming together with a few arrangements now, Friday is another public holiday NZ for Waitangi Day ... enjoy your outing.

Cheers all ...

I expect i told you we  had a trip  to NZ a few years ago, enjoyed every moment of a coach tour plus an add on to see my cousin who overlooked Wellington Bay, I wish we had done it years before and we could have done a trip again, to late now, I would recommend anyone  to take a trip to New Zealand, I felt quite at home there.

Think I will be off to bed now,  2am, surely I can get to sleep now

Morning!
My LM that was a late one… hope you managed to get some sleep in..

I loved NZ, could definitely have settled there. In the 10 years our Son and wife lived there we visited three times for around 8 weeks each visit.

Sadly they then moved to Brisbane and although I love that city too and have family connections it’s never quite grabbed me like NZ.

Mixed weather this week by the look of it.. wish we could have more than one decent day at a time!

Off to yogalates this morning, first time this year now I seem to have got over the gastric issues although more tests looming..

This afternoon I’m off to lay mahjong, I played at school so many years ago now but it’s fun and certainly keeps the old brain box in  tune.

Looking forward to being able to get in the garden but it’s too soggy..

Enjoy your day out LM and hope everyone else has a good week.

Had a busy weekend. Mark and Erica came down on Saturday from London. Mark had a new computer for me and did the necessary in transferring all the data from my existing one, with one or two exceptions, but which he fixed this morning by "remote control" from his office- magic stuff!  Ottie, their lovely dog has still not accepted me as a friend but was a lot less "barky" than when I stayed over Christmas with them. No doubt she will come round one day.

Discussions about my domestic situation and pending hip-op. So we agreed that the old freezer out in the garage was in need of a rest home and that I should think about a tumble drier for the utility room- the existing one is also in the garage. That one is still relatively new but the travel across to the garage is difficult in my present mobility state added to which I have had a couple of falls in the process.
And so this week I will be taking delivery of some new equipment. New counter top freezer and  Condensing Tumble drier.

Saturday evening we repaired to a local hostelry for a pleasant meal and then on Sunday morning they set off back home , but not before doing one or two more odd jobs which I cannot manage at the moment.  Greatly appreciated their care and consideration.

I am so l,ucky with my family even though one lot are sunning themselves down under, with Celine (d-i-l) living it up on a walking holiday in Sri Lanka.

This morning spent finding my way around the new computer and rejoicing that the missing files have now been recovered and are safely reinstalled into the new machine.
The one outstanding matter relates to my printer. Whilst I can still print material direct from the computer via WiFi I seem to have lost the connection for Scanning and no matter how I try I have not been able to resolve this. However Mark will be back down next week to go with me for my pre op assessment for my hip and I'll get him to sort it.
Heigh-ho!  rj

Yes, my eldest son and my daughter are wizards ,second son too but as he works on computers every day I think that is more than enough so don’t ask him for any help.

Try ignoring the little dog , turn your back on it when possible , it will be curious and may come near you but still ignore ,it does no harm and might make it curious ,if so let it sniff your hand which you have just by chance left hanging over the arm of your chair ,maybe after touching something tasty like cheese .
Next visit you might just by a HUGE coincidence have a morsel of cheese in your hand ,which you open if and the dog will probably sniff it.
Don’t speak ,or look , just  open your hand then ignore again.
It will remember .
Next visit might even come to see if you have any cheese .
It is all dog led so it will be comfortable with it all.

No harm done and hopefully it will gain confidence and start to be friendly but slowly does  it.

Well a check on the mobility scooter tomorrow ,it still has only O.6m on the clock .I have no interest in it at all .
Had I had the pacemaker first I might not have bothered .

But it was the Specialist at Wythenshaw Hospital who advised it .

Some bad weather on the way it seems.
Well nearly time for daughter’s  usual phone call and Only Connect and University Challenge,I like those and Mastermind .
Cheerio folks. Viktoria.

Viktoria, apologies if you've mentioned this along the way, but can't you sell the mobility scooter if it's no use to you?

Well it was a public holiday today here. And it didn't rain in Dublin today!! We've had so much rain and dull, grey skies lately. I'm really missing the sun. Whatever happened to cold, bright days? There was quite a bit of flooding in parts of the city and around the country in the last few days too. I'm longing to do some gardening, but the ground is saturated at the moment, and more rain is forecast this week.
I completely forgot about University Challenge and Only Connect tonight, I was only reminded of them when I read Viktoria's post a few minutes ago.

Frostynight
It is grey here too and I need the Sun shining through the window and when out :)  ;D to give me that lift.

I did enjoy a walk yesterday up the old railway cutting nearby and round through the new housing estate, dry but no sun.

We managed to send in 300 'valid Planning Objections' according to the Planning Officer, but the ancient former Common of the Nunnery (dissolved by Henry VIII) was still built on  :(

L.M.
I wish you could fall asleep  8) , laying awake trying to sleep, when you want to, is not pleasant.

I'm the opposite, I was at the p.c. on occasions recently and my head was dropping, so I gave up.

When I said to the Doctor in 2001 I felt I had been unconscious once at the wheel, my motorcyle and car Licence were revoked.

Viktoria,
I am no computer wizz either beyond the basics, my limit was setting up the Word letter template again after changing to Windows 11 which has visual differences in the page layouts in the menus.

I need Word for a letter, or to save text, or notes.

I have to go on Google regarding this 'phone, then write it down step by step and usually I get their in the end, after one, or a few hours  ???  ;D

Caroline,
I loved NZ too, a nice place, last time we went over 20 years ago. But last time was either hot or humid, or both.

Went to the National Archives and the Library in Wellington.

I hope your health issue resolves well  :)

Mare
We could do with some better weather, but not your humid weather, we English are pretty choosy you know  ;D

When it rains, we need sunshine too. Even the Winter sun has disappeared, albeit for the odd day, here and there.

Roobarb
Hope you are keeping well  :)

Jeff
I hope all goes very well for your operation  :)

But I don't fancy myself, any chat about permanent loss of independence and feel sorry for you.

Take care all, Mark

I did speak to Quingo and so did my daughter and eldest son.
The best offer was £1,750, £3000 if I bought another of their models .
However this one is the only  that will cope ( battery capacity) with the mile and a half journey- three miles there and back and uphill  all the way home .
I will try when the weather is better.
I have a heavy sneezing cold and hacking cough at the moment so declined the offer of an accompanied ride out on it this afternoon , Spring is not far away and I must get out more soon.

Son took my prescription to the Chemist, and asked which Cough medicine was compatible with my prescribed drugs.
They said Robitussin  ,BUT— it warned very strongly that it was addictive!
So as I am at the Dr’s tomorrow I will ask there.
I really am not sure I ought to go like this ,I will phone up,tomorrow and ask.

So cold and so much rain , but worse in other parts of  the country .

A lady at church has already started knitting for the Autumn Fair, delightful toys and baby blankets. We have an Iranian  family, the mother speaks little English but I speak to her and her daughter translates.
The lady brought out her phone and WOW !
What exquisite items ,lace table cloths and mats to protect furniture from vases etc ,lovely, she will make some for the Fair .

Well, must get in with something or other.
Cheerio folks ,look after yourselves ., thanks for kind wishes.
Viktoria.

I was thinking that too L.M.
I will see how I am tomorrow , but phone up anyway,if they say it is O.K to go Iwill wear a mask but I won’t go if I am still sneezing .
That would not be fair.

An early night after a milky de caf coffee.
Not done much today but have had a decent meal - pork casserole then a yoghurt .
Lots to drink too , De caf  tea.
Thanks L.M. You look after yourself too and I hope everyone else  does also.

Sorry to hear you’re under the weather Viktoria, do look after yourself and stay in the warm and dry, which we know you will. Sure the surgery will put you right in the morning as best cough mixture to take… lemon honey warm water and a shot of a little tipple and night to Aus sleep!

Thanks Mark for your kind thoughts re my health… now awaiting a gallbladder scan!
Had MRI in my elbow ( after my fall last April!) and waiting to find out what they might do with the floating bits that showed up on the X-ray…
I’m never unwell and have swallowed more tablets in the last couple of wks than I have in 10 yrs…
last time was when I had sepsis 10 yrs ago…

Hope everyone else is getting on ok and think it’s about time we had some sunshine and warmth to cheer us up… bitter wind today ..

OH had 5 layers of clothing on playing golf today.. pull trolleys only and his ancient one finally gave up the ghost and broke…on the 18th hole..
I’d say good timing at least it wasn’t on one of the holes furthest away.

Take care all

I have lemons and honey so will have some of that tonight .
I found that  Olbas oil on a hanky and pinned on my nighty and so could smell it,all night .
Things were easier this morning.
Phoned the Health Centre and explained but it was for bloods so they let me in the side exit door ,in and out .Just met the nurse .
It  was for my calcium levels re furring of arteries etc.
I had a mask on .

A lazy afternoon , I like Countdown.

Thanks for your kind concern folks, look after yourselves too, the weather is not really seasonal nowadays,it is all mixed up .

Viktoria,  please look after yourself and take care.

I have for the 3rd time got roped with dinners for  a group of elderly  people, I must be one of the oldest, they queue like school dinner queues,  today chicken in a sauce with baked potatoes  or shepherds pie,  the chicken had baked potatoes,  the shepherds  pie had potatoes on top, would you believe most wanted pie and baked potatoes , didn't they have enough on the top of the pie?,    plus 3 other veggies,  what amazes me is they always want more,  bearing  in mind none are homeless or using  the food bank, quite an eye opener, looks as if I have the job for life, now got to do yet another safeguarding  certificate but I must say our parish priest was helping  even though he has had 2 very major ops recently, very tiring  but good fun, thankfully only once a month.

Gosh, L. M.you do work hard, I used to enjoy all the various things at Church , our life in Belgium centred around the church there ,we were lucky when Texaco took over another oil company and many employees were transferred to Gent from Bahrain I think .
They swelled our congregation and were very innovative and generous .
When we returned to England I joined our local church after an invitation from my next door neighbour .
I was in the M.U. Had been the youngest member in the Manchester Diocese before going to Belgium and was glad there was a group to join again .
No M.U. Now but The Ladies’ Group is active again after Covid. As yet though no meetings but so many drinking places now in Ramsbottom it is not pleasant to be out in the evening ,going home from meetings etc so the few meetings are in daytime.
We are already getting ready for an Autumn Fair.
Hence the Knitting !

A dull dark wet day ——-so son’s bedroom - well as much as I can do given he knows where everything is which is often the floor!
He is not back ‘til weekend .
He is organising transport for stuff in storage at my daughter’s ,for his house next door , I have to presume he has made space!
I give him his privacy so have no idea how organised things are there as he is doing alterations etc ,finding little Art Deco features hidden for years, he likes that period as do I.

Well, must get on ,slept a bit better last night .
Hope those unwell are also feeling better.
Cheerio , look after yourselves folks.
Viktoria.

Will it ever stop raining?  Managed to dash to the supermarket earlier without getting too wet, but I'm supposed to be going out to a meeting tonight in the village, so may have to get my husband to drive me there.  Roads round here are pretty wet and at some points close to flooding.

Just watch a chubby grey squirrel nibbling away at the fat balls in our bird feeder.  He was very bold and didn't care that I was standing at the window watching.  We now have regular visits from a robin and two sparrows and two very frustrated wood pigeons, who can't get to the food, but keep trying.  We have had to put out rat/mouse poison in our compost bin, as I caught sight of one last time I took off the lid.  Feel a bit mean, but can't allow them to set up home close to the house. (They probably visit the bird table, too, I suspect.)

Keep warm and dry, everyone. :-*

Hasn't stopped raining here either Gillg. I spoke to my friend in south Devon a few days ago, she was telling me about how the road had been washed away at Torcross. I'd been reading about the recent storm but hadn't read about this disastrous damage to the coastline so I looked it up. Here's the news item:
BBC News - Storm-hit Devon road 'a mess' after it breaks up and washes away - BBC News
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr57yd2z6vjo?app-referrer=search

My friend had quite an extensive detour on her journey around there and latest news is that the road could be closed for at least a year. Let's hope the government can manage to help finance the repairs/ rebuilding.

We haven't had it anywhere near as bad here in the North East, so having seen that I'll try to stop moaning about the rain!

Hello All

A recent visit on 29 January (attachment, taken through the window) from one of several Squirrels that run and play, normally along the tops of my garden fencing and probably into neighbouring bushes and down to the wooded cutting.

Roobarb, don't speak too soon, that usually puts a jinx on it  ;D

Viktoria, get well soon and I hope the cough medicine is working well, was Robitussin any good?  :)

Have you tried humming?

Humming stimulates NO (nitric oxide) which has natural anti-viral, antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties.

"Humming significantly boosts nitric oxide (NO) production in the nasal passages, increasing it up to 15-fold compared to quiet breathing, by creating oscillating airflow that enhances sinus ventilation and gas exchange. This surge in NO offers benefits like improved blood flow, antimicrobial defense against pathogens, better immune function, and relaxation by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, potentially helping with sinus congestion and promoting overall well-being."

I hum every time after returning from being outside or have to go to places, e.g. Doctors or for food bits, not on the delivery.

I squeezed a fresh lemon and its fibre into mug, took out the pips from the glass squeezer and poured warm water from the kettle (not hot) over it to get the rest of the fibre into the mug, then added a teaspoon of pure honey for a drink.

If the water is hot, it will change the honey into a methyl and it is less beneficial (unfortunately most bought honey is pasteurised so some of the natural goodness has been spoilt).

L.M.,
Sounds like you are multi-disciplinary!  :) Nurses Uniform one minute then a Dinner Lady in an Apron, serving. Then out visiting. Hope you and the O.H., are keeping well  :)

Caroline,
I hope your gall bladder is alright! Have they given you a diet sheet or any advice, advising what foods and drinks to avoid and what to eat and drink to try and support a recovery?  :)

With these immune responses, usually comes inflammation and the rich sugary food, cakes with sugar, any bad fats, sweeteners etc., and drinks over X-mas can be enough to slow any function in anybody over 60.

When they told me in early 2021 that I had, had suffered acute kidney failures due to inflammation and I was going for blood tests every 2 weeks, and the A&E visits for secondary infections (one was 3 infections for the price of 1) ...

I was determined I was going to reverse it and eat a diet to support tissue repair / regrowth.

The A & E Doctor and Consultant both said to me that will take years, most people give up seeing nothing in 6 months and you'll be back here (and I was back for three years).

Four years later, I am sensing a change now but need to be on guard (it is not 2019 state though). Fortunately I became intolerant to sweetener and added sugar (incl fruits - high in natural sugar).

I tried a tiny cube piece (size of a tiny sugar cube), of cake and it was so sickly sweet now, I cannot believe how I would eat a slice, then eat another.

Gillg
The government promised in 2023-2024 that they would not conduct Solar Experiments to make it rain or dim the sun.

But I do look out the window, including dodge the showers for a walk and I do wonder if they have changed their minds.

We all need the sun :D

Take care all and get well soon, Mark

The squirrel that visits us is very bold.  He/she lands with a thump on the patio table and is not in the least perturbed when there are watchers through the windows.  These grey squirrels are not nearly so attractive or appealing as the red squirrels near my sister-in-law's house in the Lake District, I have to say.  They (the grey ones) look a bit more "ratty" to me!

Hooray, we haven't had any rain all morning!  Everywhere looks so much brighter today.  Yes, I know, we mustn't tempt fate.  The forecast seems to be rain for at least another week. :(

I've been very quiet, had a hell of a week, sitting room had water pouring through the ceiling on Sunday, plumbers fixing the leak Monday, me clearing up in bathroom above on Tuesday, re-fixing my pacemaker check appointment most of week, having trouble getting into my M & S account later, shopping at supermarket through biblical downpour, dodging half a flock of sheep who had all come down from the hills 'cos of the weather, ruined a pair of OH's trousers ironing, spent morning trying to buy another replacement pair..... can't get into Rootsquiz, really fed up. All I need to make the week perfect is cats to be sick all over me.....
Next week must be better..... won't it be?

Bushinn ,I will try humming.Thanks.
Feel a bit better today ,I think steam also helps .
The Robitussin states very strongly that it is highly addictive!
As I can’t give up chocolate ——-
It is also for a dry cough and it is not that ,lots of tissues used throughout the day but do get some rest at night .
It will pass.

Just spent almost 30 minutes trying to get into RootsChat!
It keeps telling me there is another Viktoria!
That user name is already in use!
I was getting withdrawal symptoms!

Thanks for all the news folks, hope the problems get quickly sorted .
My little inconvenience with the washer flooding was nothing by comparison .

I do hope you are managing, so much at once to deal with , I have had a dickens of a job replying, apparently I am trying to use someone else’s identity ,a Viktoria!
Just joking — when things like that crop up it makes  me realise just what a lifeline RootsChst really is .Many thanks .

The Fire Brigade can sometimes help, especially pumping out .But it is a bit late I can imagine for that
But it is the damage isn’t it, hope your house insurance covers that for you.

Treat yourself ,you deserve something nice after coping with so much.

A dull damp day ,cool too.
So much to do I am spoilt for choice!
I might prioritise and put my feet up to watch Countdown !

Sincere good wishes that you can put all those real problems behind you and have a good rest .
Why do big problems never come alone!

A dull rainy day ,again!
But no flooding here ,other places sadly not so lucky .
Really hope all gets sorted T,Y.

Hello All

Gillg, The Squirrels love playing along the fences  :) and to me they are less of a nuisance than the pigeons.

But a neighbour had a gap in their facsia and they were in their roof.

TY,  The weather has been "biblical" here today as well and been so overcast grey that it feels it has not really got full daylight 8) and the showers on and off all day.

Roobarb, I needed a few bits from Aldi, so I walked in the mist and a shower coming home with my rucksack and picked up my bits, plus 4 bottles of Pinot Noir  ;) and also saw their Cheese & Onion Crisps whilst there.

I can see the appeal of a glass  :P and a good book, with today's weather.

A very small Red Wine and a few Squares of Dark Chocolate and the occasional small packet of crisps are my only 'wicked pleasures'.

Viktoria, The best chocolate for the heart, I hear is Dark Chocolate and the higher percentage of Cocoa and the less added sugar / sweetener the better it seems. My 90% Cocoa Butter 100g bar has carbohydrates which sugars at 7g.  :)

Two squares off the bar is probably only 0.7g of added sugars and I am okay with that tiny amount.

The very occasional small packet of Crisps don't fall within the cook from fresh category and the recommended food list.

My required salt has to come from Cheddar Cheese, a fermented dairy product. (But not a processed cheese).

I had a nod from a US Scientific Research Lab that a Dry Red Wine in the Petri dish, 'neutralised' Corona Viruses and things were so desperate, I told the Consultant in 2024 I was 'going to continue medicinal amounts of dry red wine' as a personal Trial and he had also heard that there might be a benefit, but no human trials had been conducted, so could not agree or disagree, regarding it being helpful or not for a new long-term digestion and bowel trouble/pain.

When I bump into the Winter infected, or the afflicted, the symptoms come back within 12 to 24 hours, then I have certain foods and drink strategies to fight apparent infection of the digestion system!

My GP Surgery prescribed a P.P.I. (Proton Pump Inhibitor) medication and my Consultant almost barked in an excited voice down the phone "YOU DON'T NEED THEM STOP THOSE TODAY" they might control your pain, but seems they will depress vital nutrients in your attempts and dietary changes to make any improvement.

Take care all, Mark

Well I am finally back in RootsChat but when I meet the other Viktoria who has caused me so much trouble——well !

I keep waiting to hear on the news of an association between Peter Mandelsson and Vladimir Putin !
I mean, nothing will surprise me now!
P.M’s tentacles are very widely spread it seems ,what a scumbag and an utter disgrace.
He and Andrew thingimabob should be locked up together.

Hope all are O.K.
I know there is illness but we are relatively safe by comparison and that is a great blessing I feel.
Night night .

Hi Viktoria and All

Good to hear from you and glad you got back on okay.

I don't comment on politics.

I hope your cough &c., has greatly improved!

Be careful with steam, I put about 2 drops of Olbas Oil in hot water to try and clear sinus problems, but not steaming water. Some decongestants are not recommended for some illnesses and health conditions, despite us using them for years and surviving reasonably well  :) !

60 deg C. and above is classed as scalding, so please take care even with hot water.

It sounds like the 3rd WW started in my digestion system this afternoon there were wizzes, water going down a plughole noises, whining, and what sounded like an exchange with enemy artillery with noises which sounded like explosions inside the belly  ;D . Then a ceasefire.

Just had a mug of tea and they recommenced the battle  ::) by the sounds of it.

One of the doctors' of mine is a Black Doctor (Advanced Nurse Practitioner, I looked her up and seems she also assisted the Surgeon in the Operating Theatre) she is super helpful to me and she knows how to examine you like the good old Family Doctors did and she had her stethoscope out listening from the chest down almost touching my man bits ;D

She commented very noisy digestion.

Next thing, I was on the 2 week cancer pathway, due to the other gastro related symptoms I had.

But had the Virtual Colonscopy Scan and been given the Clear. My word, any dignity that I thought I had, just disappeared on arrival. I suppose it is like that for female examinations and giving birth.

When a room goes quiet, someone piped up once, my Sister has a digestion system that sounds like yours.

Almost quiet on the Western front again  ;D

I spoke to my friend in south Devon a few days ago, she was telling me about how the road had been washed away at Torcross. I'd been reading about the recent storm but hadn't read about this disastrous damage to the coastline so I looked it up. Here's the news item:
BBC News - Storm-hit Devon road 'a mess' after it breaks up and washes away - BBC News
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr57yd2z6vjo?app-referrer=search (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cr57yd2z6vjo?app-referrer=search)

The coastline at Slapton was entirely created by deposition of material carried by the sea from further east.  It is a sand and shingle bar, which formed the lake behind, similar to Chesil Beach in Dorset.  Then somebody built a road along it.  Look behind the lake where you can see the original cliff line, which it might return to, if erosion outstrips deposition.

There is mention of being a WW2 practice landing area.  Several villages surrounding were completely evacuated to allow American troops to use the whole area.  A memorial further along the beach commemorates those who were accidentally killed.  "The Magic Army" by Leslie Thomas is a novel based on those events.

Thanks MollyC, that's really interesting. My friend isn't a native of Devon so probably wouldn't know about that, I'll pass the information on to her.  :)

We went to Slapton some years ago,  very nice place, we bought a book from a man who I think wrote a book about WW2  and Slapton.
It is very sad the amount of storm damage done, Teignmouth where my brother lives has a lot of devastation  along  the coastline, the end if the pier has disappeared  and I think the Dawlish railway line is in trouble, the things is, we can do nothing about it.
Off to this week's diary before we get shut down .

Just before this one gets shut…
we also went to Slapton sands some years ago..
parked up the top of the hill and had a walk around the lake.. beautiful except we took a wrong turning and walked a lot more miles than expected ( very hot day!) until we came across a farmer who pointed us in the right direction back through the campsite ( thank goodness they had a ladies!) and had a delicious fresh crab sandwich sitting over looking the sea.
We then walked along the now non existent road back to the car.
Such a pretty area and I’m sure it’ll affect summer trade unfortunately.

Hello All

Not all the deaths were accidental, unless you count firing toward your own allied men an accident?

Ken Small wrote a book called "The Forgotten Dead"
It was part of rehearsals for the D-Day landings where allied Serviceman landed on the Devon beach in simulated conditions.

Accounts claimed allied men lie dead on the Devon beach and also in the sea.

The Germans in the English Channel also opened fire on allied vessels.

Some were taken to Brookwood Cemetery, Surrey.

Thank you for the detail Bush Inn, I remember it was a serious episode.

There is a Field Studies Council centre in Slapton village where I spent a week during the 6th form.  I have just reminded myself that Slapton Ley is a National Nature Reserve and looking at my old 1:25000 map I had written in pencil "Max depth recorded 13 feet" and "Surface is 9 feet above mean sea level".

Yes, it was a terribly sad event.

It seems the deaths occurred over two days.
