Please can anyone help me find the Mr GORDON who married Margaret Ann nee DAVIES born 1871?
They were living in Liverpool/Toxteth Park and their son William was born there in 1902.
1911 Census shows Margaret and William with her brother William DAVIES and family. Margaret's husband is elsewhere. Their marriage has lasted 11 years.
1921 Census shows Margaret now Widowed, with son William.
So I'm looking for a marriage and/or death of Mr ? GORDON :-\

Thanks to all of you who have suggested ideas for following up Margaret Gordon and her husband.
However, so far nothing seems to 'fit'. :(
Margaret (Davies) is living with her parents at the 1901 Census.
In 1911 Margaret's husband is not with her, but their marriage has lasted 11 years. I wonder if Mr Gordon is at sea? Or they aren't actually married? (I can't find the son's birth anywhere).
Any other suggestions please? :-\

Well done, SS.
William's birth seems to be done and dusted.
Mr. Gordon remains a mystery!

Did William ever marry?
Or there is the death certificate of Margaret. Hopefully her son might be the informant. It may say widow of....(even if she hadn't actually been married!)

Until Melbell responds to current findings I'm not doing any more.

Hi SS
You've done wonders already.
Hopefully Melbell will come back. If they decide to get hold of Margaret's death record they can let us know if it was of any help or not.

Hello softly softly and jonwarrn
I'm truly grateful for all your help and attention to my problem!
I've been following up on the leads you've kindly researched for me, especially the birth reg and the addresses.
I've got Margaret's death reg now. She's described as "widow of William Gordon Occupation not known". Margaret gassed herself on 12th March at 16 Jolliffe Street. Of course because the death was referred to the Coroner, there's 'no informant' named. The inquest was held 2 days later on 14 March.
I'm looking into further details soon.
Once again, thanks for helping me. :) :)

Sad sad end. I personally do not think she ever married William Gordon but he was probably the father. Also I do not think son William ever married but his death certificate might name a wife/partner. He was still single in 1939.
Many thanks for getting back to us. It's so disappointing when research is done and no reply is ever received. Well done.

I agree with your assessment of the likely outcome of Margaret's end....she "killed herself by inhaling coal gas through a tube attached to the bedroom wall gas bracket". Hideous. She must have been desperate. Do wonder if William her son was affected all his life. I think he was an only child living out his life alone.

William's occupation ties in with 1939 war register entry.
