Title: Deceased Online website information please. COMPLETED THANKYOU.
Post by: Steve C on Saturday 17 January 26 22:09 GMT (UK)
Been researching a couple of vague leads over the last few days regarding a couple of ancestors who passed away in the 1970s.

Checking the Deceased Online website for one ancestor in particular has returned one result. When I click on the name I am presented with the ancestors first and last names together with death date, cremation date and location. Underneath this information it states Further Information available with clickable links to Cremation Register Details and Cremation Register Scan both costing £2.50 ( see attached screenshot ).

I have never used this service before and therefore wondering if anyone else has, who could kindly pass comment on the merits of obtaining a copy, and what information it would offer.

Many thanks in advance Steve

I would contact them and ask for a sample copy or at least a description of what you're going to get. Caveat emptor as they say.  They will have a better idea than anybody here.

I have my late husbands certificate of cremation January 2024.  In addition to the info shown above it also gives this info:

Place of death
Address at time of death
Date death was registered.
Who registered the death

I have used the site quite a lot....they have good London coverage.
The website has recently been re vamped and is easier to use.
I once made the mistake of "searching" when I was logged in and must have clicked something because all my credits got used up!

There appears to be no norm as to what information is included in the  burial/cremation registers, so requesting a sample copy would not be of much help
But the later the record, the more info you might receive, as CaroleW has already posted.
The address can be particularly useful for follow up research.

Many thanks Zaph, CaroleW and Rebel for taking the time to reply and the details you all supply  ;D

All things considered I don`t really think I am going to glean too much information from accessing these records. I mention this because for the first time in ages I burnt some midnight oil late last night and found a mention of my ancestors using the BNA website ( pure pot luck as it appears the website has been recently updated because the records I accessed were added only a few days ago ).The articles display an address and mentions other family members first names.

Many thanks Steve

I have had records from there for a Crematorium which also state what has happened to the ashes ie scattered at the crem or taken by a relative.

If you have an Ancestry subscription they have some scanned cremation registers which will give you a rough idea what might be contained in the images held by Deceased Online.

E.g. try searching "Great Yarmouth" in the "England & Scotland, Select Cemetery Registers, 1800-2024" record set.  There are cremation records in addition to the ones for burials in the corporation cemetery.

Unfortunately I don`t have Ancestry subscription, I used to but leads and information gradually dried up so around 5 years ago I stopped subscribing. If I come across any new details I tend to use the local library version of FindMyPast.
