Thanks, I've tried these suggested solutions, but I'm not back to how FindMyPast used to be.  I might as well cancel my sub.

When that banner first appeared on my laptop screen it was huge and I couldn't find any way to close it down. I suspect there was some kind of glitch, as next time I logged in it was smaller and the little cross had appeared allowing me to close it.
If that still hasn't happened in your case, try logging out and clearing your browser cache and cookies before logging back in. You could also try a different browser.

Ta-da!  The huge Waves of Victory header has been abandoned, and all is working adequately again

Thanks to everyone who responded.

What fixed it?

I wish people wouldn't always say delete all your cookies. The people who do that don't understand the importance of cookies and that it might take many hours to reconfigure the various websites that you visit. Trying a second browser is a much better first step.
