FindMyPast has a militia record of a Frederick George Hillyard, born 1883, parish of Poplar, No. 6839 which also mentions living at  44 Donald Street, Bromley. Doesn't specify if "by Bow" but there was a Donald Street in Bromley by Bow. Attested May 1901

He's at that address on 1901 census as Fred Hilyard - a boarder with the Stacey family

Ancestry is hinting at a load of Australian records - am digging about to see if there is a link

Not sure Aussie Frederick G is yours. there's a collection of newspaper articles about his bigamous marriage in Australia, having already married in Woolwich in 1900. That Frederick and first wife are findable on 1901, where he's born Madras

I checked and ruled out Aussie Fred also - found a probable Madras birth registration that fitted 1901 Census.
