Title: Mark Fisher - m - Mary Clowe + variants 1775-1780ish Suffolk
Post by: ribbo39 on Tuesday 06 January 26 23:18 GMT (UK)
Hi folks & HNYr to all,

I am looking for a  marriage of a Mark Fisher - m - Mary Clowe/Cloe/Clone + other variants who were married about 1775-1780 ish possibly Suffolk, (although I have the Suffolk Marriages CD (ex SFHS) and cannot see a marriage in amongst those entries).

I have found several children bapt. in either Marlesford or Letheringham from 1784 to 1800 all born to a Mark Fisher and Mary (late Alden/ Clowe/Clone)

I have never found a baptism for Mary Clowe etc. but have for a Mary Aldred/Alden in 1756  Grundisburgh.

Can anyone please help in locating a marriage?

Many thanks in advance.

Alan

There is a marriage in 1762 of a Mary Aldrid to Francis Clow in Peasenhall.

Mark Fisher to Mary Aldred 1782 in Wickham Market.

There's a James Fisher bapt at Wickham Market on 13 Jul 1782 s/o Mark and Mary (no maiden / former name for Mary recorded on FindMyPast transcript)

Last child of Mark and Mary was in 1802, so looks like 1762 for an earlier marriage is unlikely as she would be too old to have a child in 1802.

There's a burial for a Mark Fisher in Letheringham on 25 Dec 1828 age 66 - birth abt 1762. I would expect Mary to be of similar age but can't find an obvious burial

On the baptism record for Mark Fisher junir, it describes Mary as "late Clowe spinster". Did Mary nee Aldred die and Mark married another Mary (nee Clowe or similar)?

It looks like this James was baptised again on 23 Jul 1786 in Marlesford. The note says he is about 5 years old, mother was "late Clowe". Hannah Fisher baptised at same time.

Correction last child is Abraham 1806

Hi LizzieL,

Many thanks for all your lookups. I have found 12 children baptisms with parents Mark & Mary - late Clow with the exception of James Fisher bapt. 1782 Wickham Market. Dates fit in nicely but I have doubts whether he is one of the family or whether it's a first baptism for the James subsequently bapt. 1786 Marlesford (about 5 years old).

The other problem is Mark Fisher married Mary Aldred 12-1-1782 Wickham Market so have I got the right couple?

Another odd thing, baptism of Mary Fisher on 25 May 1800, gives mother as Elizabeth formery Clow spinster (not Mary).

Hi all,
Sorry for late replies but our heatwave (43c +) for 2 ½ days  was a bit difficult.

However, I have been searching for more entries and believe there is a marriage between a Mark Fisher & Mary/Elizabeth Clow somewhere.

I have found;
Elizabeth Clough bapt. 28-2-1747 Dennington

Elizabeth Clow bapt. 15-11-1767 Marlesford

So for now will have to leave it for now,
Alan
