Title: Wiltshire Bastardy Look-Up Request
Post by: Norfolk Nan on Tuesday 06 January 26 11:42 GMT (UK)

Hi, does anyone have access to the Wilts FHS CD20 Bastardy records please?  I'm looking for anything relating to Sarah Edwards of Hannington having a child in 1788.

Thank you.

Wiltshire FHS has the following

Henry Edwards
born 10 June 1788
baptised 15 June 1788 in Highworth
Mother Sarah Edwards

Highworth is about 2 miles from Hannington.

Thank you, they are my folks.  Is that all that the FHS cds show?  No mention of a hearing or a possible father or affiliation/maintenance order by any chance?

Thank you.

FindMyPast does have another transcription entry, also from Wiltshire FHS, which does show "Notes - base born; poor" - Record Set = Wiltshire Baptisms Index 1530-1917.

Hi BumbleB - and thanks for confirming the details. I appreciate the help.

I have all those details but wandered if the Wilts FHS Bastardy CD was taken from poor law hearings or from baptisms, hence asking if anyone had that particular CD.  I'd be happy to pay for the set if it contained any poor law findings but it would be pointless if the collection repeated facts from the baptismal registers.

Thanks again  ;D

You could always contact Wilts FHS and ask them the question!!
