Title: Where did Harold Calvert go,
Post by: wilcoxon on Friday 02 January 26 19:30 GMT (UK)
He is no relation, but I started with one and found three.

What happened to Harold Calvert.

The first time I possibly find him is in 1939
Harold Calvert birth date 1 Dec 1920 a single night porter , at Nevern Road Kensington.
I`m not really finding him in 1921. There is a family in Halifax, Yorkshire but they just don’t seem to fit and the WC there is 3 months old.
In 1941 in various newspapers there are lots of reports about a Harold Calvert, he seems quite a rogue.
In one  8 March 1941 he is described as 20, a private in the Military police , pleading guilty to deserting his unit, stealing a car, a coat and 30 volumes of  the Encyclopedia Britannica and more.
In April 1939 he had two months hard labour for stealing a car in 1938. He is said to have enlisted in the Guards when he was 16 giving a false age, managed to get a trip on the Queen Mary to America on her first trip (1936) caught and  returned to the Guards and was bought out by his father. He then was a butler, but had sticky fingers, got 3 months hard labour. He tried to join the Merchant Service but was turned down, the RAF wouldn`t have him because of his record. A clue is that
He had driven a car during  raids and rescued a man when a man fell near his father house in Willesden.
He was engaged to a young woman anxious to marry him .
25 July 1941. Harold Calvert  of Military Police pleaded guilty of desertion at a Court Martial. It states he enlisted on 19 November (1940) gave his age as 28, but it really was 19 years 11 months. He had skin problems and went to London for treatment. This age matches the 1939 register one quite well.

Nothing more until Jun qtr 1943 when 3 Harold Calvert`s married .

1st Harold Calvert married Joan Suter .Jun qtr  1943 Willesdon.
16 December 1948. Hampstead News.
Harold Calvert 27 dealer of Parliament Hill  Hampstead charged with receiving 343 stolen blankets. Two directors of Avery Mills of Soho  are  mentioned, one being a brother in law (clue to wife ?)  of accused. Sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Births Mar 1949 Westminster, female Calvert mmn Suter.
Male Calvert Dec 1950 Kensington. mmn  Suter .

2nd Jun qtr 1943 Uxbridge .Harold W Calvert married Joan K Clifton
This one  in the newspapers. 7 May 1943, weddings of the week.
Harold  Calvert son of Captain and Mrs Calvert, Blackpool to Miss Joan Clifton daughter of Mr and Mrs F Clifton, Hillingdon.
Between 1946 and 1956 there are 6 children born Calvert mmn Clifton.

3rd.  Jun qtr 1943 Harold Calvert married Phyllis V Lawson Willesdon district .
Is he the night porter in 1939.
No children found.
1939 register. Willesdon.
Phyllis Lawson / Calvert / Bloemhop. Single  B 16 / 8/ 1919. At School. Adjacent entries are closed.

1947 Kensington electoral registers. Phyllis Calvert. 12 occupants but no Harold.

 Mar qtr 1948 Hampstead
Phyllis V Calvert married Maurice H Bloemhof.
Not finding a Phyllis V Lawson birth,

1953 British Phone Books, London
Phyllis Bloemhof . No others with that name.
This is all I can find. No clue when Harold Calvert died, and what happened to  Phyllis V and Maurice H Bloemhof.
Any ideas please.

The Suter marriage was 1948, not 1943
So the Lawson/Suter Harold could be the same one?

Re Captain Calvert.
This needs checking but..

In 1939 in Blackpool is a retired master Mariner,  Charles Calvert, born 1874
Wife Alice G. Born 1873
He dies 1946. Probate to Alice Gertrude
She dies 1961 probate to Charles Richardson Calvert
Marriage Alice Gertrude Richardson to Charles Calvert 1897
Charles Richardson Calvert - Sculcoates 1900
So I think their son is the Harold William - Hull 1907  and that is probably who married Joan Clifton.
And died 1981

1939 register. Willesdon.
Phyllis Lawson / Calvert / Bloemhop. Single  B 16 / 8/ 1919. At School. Adjacent entries are closed.

There seem to be two entries for her in the free index, at 65 Exeter Road
Are Louie H Lawson and Florrie J Lawson her parents?

Again in the free index, at 57 Exeter Road, are Calverts
Monty and Louise and two daughters?

I think these two families are Jewish

They are at 9 Danes Road in South Manchester in 1921 free index as Isaac.
Monte Rose Isaac
Son Harold Isaac is 7 months old!

Here is Monty's change of name to Calvert in the London Gazette in 1922

So Harold Isaacs could have been born 1 December 1920
Registered first quarter 1921
Age 7 months in June 1921 in the census

From 1922, and his father's change of name by deed poll, I guess he would officially be Harold Calvert?

Thanks for your hard work, I have tried all possible combinations of Harold / isaac / Calvert/ Isaacs for a death or emigration record, but surely Phyllis would have to wait 7 years for him to be presumed dead.
Where did she and Maurice Bloemhof go,  I thought I found them on a ship from Le Havre to New York in 1952 .Maurice aged 30. But his wife is Victoria 24. Not them.
Oh well,  some you win some you don't

In September 1937 Harold Calvert aged 17 arrived in Plymouth from New York on the Washington . Third Class.
He was alone and going to 51 Exeter Road, Brandebury, London

In 1939 Monty Calvert,  Loiusa and daughters were at 57 Exeter Rosd, Willesden

Is this their son returning from one of his escapades.  :)
