Hi, I’m hoping someone might be able to help with a lookup or any guidance.
I’m trying to trace my grandfather, Amarjit Singh Grewal.
What I know so far:
- Born in India (exact place unknown)
- Believed to have moved to the United Kingdom after the Second World War
- Family stories suggest he came to London to study at a university, possibly in the late 1940s or early 1950s
- He later married Joyce E. East in Woolwich in Sep 1960 (Vol 5d, Page 2122)
- Children: Sharenjit K Grewal (1961 Dartford, has sadly passed now)
I’m trying to find anything that might confirm:
- When he arrived in the UK
- Whether he appears in any London university records
- Any early addresses or occupations before his marriage
If anyone has access to records that might help, or can point me in the right direction for London university archives or post‑war immigration records, I’d be very grateful.
Thank you to anyone who can help.
:)

You need to buy a copy of the 1960 marriage cert to establish his fathers name.
What was his occupation?
Did he have a passport - place of birth may be stated
What was his full birthdate which should be shown on his death cert?
If he was granted British citizenship - are any documents available in his possessions?
