Eccleshall was a sub-district within Stone.  See

Is it this man you are after?

Burial at Eccleshall Holy Trinity 4 April 1838:

William Plant
age: 64
address: Charnes

Age is not an exact match, but there's no other William Plant death registered in Stone district 2nd Q 1838.

his wife Ellen is still living in 1841  in Hanley square  she remarries and is burried in northwood church,  so all i know is he dies before 1841  there is a death in 1833 buried at st johns church where i would have expected but it puts william quite a bit older than ellen.  just saw that other death in stoke on trent and wondered if that was him

Thank you I wondered if it was the Market Sq one as I could not see another that fitted.

his wife Ellen is still living in 1841  in Hanley square

I could not make up my mind what the father's surname was on her marriage to Benjamin was so thank you for correcting me. I had not noticed that her previous marriage was Brunt.

Her age as Ellen Clay in 1851 was 67.  The burial at Northwood in 1864 has an age of 83

I suspect that 1833 Hanley death could be him.

There was a William Plant in Eccleshall who married a Jane Simkin in 1796 who is likely to be that 1838 Eccleshall death

Hi i'm trying to find a death

FreeBMD in conjunction with the GRO is where I would turn too. Ancestry is known to have errors and omissions that have since been corrected on FreeBMD (their original source when imported 2006). Easy to just specify the County and name on FreeBMD. The civil death index won't have age as that was not recorded in the original index till 1866 but was added when GRO reindexed from scratch in their enhanced version.
