Just noticed a Flash sale by Ancestry.
-
I hope they’re going to give some Subscription offers soon!
My subs expire on the 1st January, - and there’s no way that I’m renewing at full price!!

I have been gifted and ancestry DNA, wonder if it will throw up more than MH did?. LM

Ancestry has a much larger Database than MH, and so you should get more matches.
Romilly.

Many thanks Sandra, - much appreciated!
Romilly 😊

No Swedish showed up in MH, I was disappointed as I know my gt grandfather was Swedish, time will tell

The Ethnicities on My Heritage seem to differ from the ones I have on Ancestry. (I tested with Ancestry and uploaded to My Heritage).
I think that the two Sites use a different algorithm?

Do you know where previous generations originated LM? If not, they could have come from elsewhere, hence no Swedish showing up? Do you have matches with people from Sweden or elsewhere in the region?
Anyone purchasing an Ancestry DNA test needs to be aware that a subscription is required for it to be of much use.

I will renew my sub, did let it lapse for awhile as I had FindMyPast and MH, whilst one cannot takes one's money with them one has to be sensible !!
I was always told my grandmother was half Swedish.

If it is a family story it may not be accurate. Presumably you have considered ethnic percentages in neighbouring countries in case the family hailed from elsewhere? I suppose we also have to consider NPEs.
My Heritage is usually fairly good for European heritage. At least I have found that to be the case. :) It seems to be a popular choice as far as DNA tests go. Unsure of the popularity of Ancestry in specific regions.
Good luck with it anyway LM.

This might be a really silly question I have 2 friends who would like their DNA done, they don't and will not join Ancestry or similar, will it still work if they do a test and not belong to a genealogy site.

Hi LM,
As I understand it your two friends will need to register a free account with Ancestry to activate their DNA tests.
Once their results are in they can invite someone else as manager or collaborator on the test and have no further involvement if they wish.
This is what I did with my Mum's test and I am also a collaborator on my friend and her father's test who don't have paid memberships.
Happy New Year, Tony

Unless they register free accounts the tests would be pointless, an account is needed to view the results.

I don't think I will bring the subject up again, hopefully they will forget, I know they don't want to subscribe.
Thank you for your replies
