Hi,
Does anyone have access to the marriage licences of Penrith?
If so could you please lookup the ML of:
Richard Ellwood and Jane Whelpdale who married 31 May 1802 at St Andrew's church in Penrith Cumberland. They married by licence according to their marriage record in Freeregs.

There is this On the Gretna Green marriage registers
Richard Ellwood of the parish of Penrith in the county of Cumberland
Attorney at Law
Jane Welpdale spinster of the said Parish
29 May 1802 was married

That is interesting! Attorney at Law doesn't really fit in with my farmer ancestors! Also his father Mark died in 1795!! So where did the money come from to pay for his education!

Yes you are correct! Richard was the son of James Ellwood. I have found a document on Ancestry:
