Title: Rotherham Great War casualties
Post by: mmm45 on Thursday 18 December 25 11:58 GMT (UK)
Hello

Does anyone know if there's a roll of honour for Rotherham great war casualties or photos on line?

Looking for any information on 201910 Pte James Sloan of 1/4th West Riding Regiment KIA 3/9/16

Aware his brother Thomas was KIA 1/7/16 with 9th York and Lancaster - wondered if a double tragedy would be in local papers ?

I have all the census info back to his and family origins in Whitehaven/Cumbria - Thank You

This is a link to a Second World War list, but mentions a book by Westwood and Featherstone which contains all the names from memorials for both wars for the Metropolitan Borough, so worth making an enquiry to this site.

The photo shows the First World War memorial plaques for the County Borough.  (The Second World War names were added in a second memorial which is behind the one shown.)

Glad you found that.  The greatwarforum link has photos of all the panels.  The York & Lancs. occupy more than three of them, T. Sloan is there.  I have a distant relative on the last panel (London Regiment).  Unfortunately the photos were taken in 2014 which show a blank wall behind the memorial, which is where, in 2015, panels for the 2nd WW memorial were belatedly installed.
