He is a barber in 1871 & there are 3 children shown. Have you looked up the childrens births on freebmd then checked gro online to establish mmn?
Son Samuel b 1864 Macclesfield but there are 2 such births on freebmd - one has mmn Hunt & the other Swindells
Dtr Sarah Anne b 1852/3 - 2 entries on freebmd - one illegit the other mmn Barlow
No marriage matches to those surnames or to an Ann
Did you check the 1861 entry? Ann is Hannah

Odd baptism of daughter Mary at St Ambrose Widnes. Name shown as Mary but in brackets after is Dean
Took place on 10.10.1906 but shows birthdate as 31.12.1856 - & it was a private baptism. Parents Samuel & Hannah Stubbs
There is an 1865 marriage of Thomas Dean to Mary Stubbs in Macclesfield but Mary was only b 1856 so too young to marry 1865 but there is an 1877 marriage to Samuel Dean

In 1861 - as you may already know - Samuel was a Bricklayers Labourer!
He is with Hannah (Stubbs) - shown as wife - and daughters Sarah Ann and Mary, in Macclesfield.
It doesn't look like they ever married.

Yes l think that is the family,, lve just downloaded the birth of Samuel born 1864,it says mothers maiden name Hunt, father Samuel his occ is a coal hewer,, he does seem to have had a change of jobs,,

Working with the niece, I found an Emma (born 1844) daughter of William Stubbs. I can find William (born 1805) and Samuel (born 1812) sons of Samuel and Sarah. Perhaps this could be worth looking into.
I have been working with a wildcard to pick up both Stubs and Stubbs.

Thankyou this looks promising,, are they in Macclesfield,, l did see a, Samuel born to Sarah and Samuel baptised a St Michael's is that your find,, Eda
-
Yes they were both baptised Macclesfield St Michael. Samuel with a double b and William with a single b.
I tried to find Emma Stubbs on the 1881 census but Emma (daughter of William) was married in 1880.
I was interested as I have Stubbs Ancestors from that area but don't think they tie in.
