;D happy christmas
I'm looking for George Alder Logan who was born about 1915 and lived in Chevington Drift. His brother Robert died during the 2nd world war and his 2 youngest siblings died shortly after they were born but....I can't seem to find George after WW2.
I know he went to America in 1923 but obviously came back to the UK and after that I have no idea where he went.
If anyone here is related to him, or knows how to find him, please let me know
-
If he was only born in 1915 - what were the circumstances of his going to America in 1923?
-
There is an outgoing passenger list 1923 for a George Logan b 1915 but it is to Quebec. He appears to originate from the IOM & travelling with parents George & Isabel
-
He travelled with his mother, Sarah Jane, age 30 yrs 1 mth, aboard the Franconia. Yet to check if also with father George.
The FindMyPast records are not straightforward.
-
George, age 33, East Chevington travelled on the Caronia.
Note - East Chevington appears against George, Isabella and George Jnr. Assuming it is linked to Chevington Drift?
Added - Chev Drift is the family in 1921. George Snr's addrss against the Caronia is "East Chevington, Morpeth"
-
A 3yr old Robert also travelled on the Franconia
-
I appreciate all the replies, but I already had the 1923 info, he was travelling with his family to visit his grandfather who was living there and they intended to become permanent residents.....what i want to know is...what happened to him after 1945?
-
They returned on the Scythia from New York, arriving Liverpool 24 Dec 1927.
George Logan, a miner, age 39
George, child, age 13
Robert, child, age 7
intended address for all 3 is East Chevington, Morpeth
Can't see Sarah on that same ship

I suspect you have all this, but just in case (I think Sarah's maiden name was Walker?) -
Newcastle Evening Chronicle, 2 July 1940
There's a George Logan, born 1888 at 11 Marshes House, Bedlington on the 1939 Register
But George Jnr very elusive.
-
George Snr buried at St Peter Cambois on 5 Oct 1956, aged 67. Address 11 Marshes Houses West Sleekburn (FreeREG)
Also a “Corporal Logan” aged 22 buried 3 July 1940 which given death date, I assume is Robert
Had hoped a will might’ve been in George’s name the estate is for a widow instead
LOGAN George of 11 Marshey’s Houses West Sleekburn died 2 Oct 1956 at RVI Hospital Newcastle to Ethel May Logan widow
-
Thanks, I didn't know the date they left America but I do know why. Sarah Jane had 2 children born 1926 and 1927 and she also died 1927 possibly due to complications after childbirth, who knows.
She is buried in Pennsylvania along with her 2 deceased children

LOGAN West Sleekburn 11, Marshes
Houses Oct 2., aged 67 years. George
dearly loved husband of Ethel Logan
(nee Peacock). Interment Cambois

Scan is dire but I am reasonably sure the above is correct
There is a likely marriage reg
George LOGAN and Ethel M Peacock
Marriages Q3 1932 Gateshead 10a 1753
and Gateshead registrars (who are high on my list of super helpful people)
confirm that the ages I gave them (from the d.o.b. on 1939 register) were a match with the marriage record
and the groom was a widower, bride was single.
Which is very puzzling as they are in the same household in 1939 and he's down as a widower and she's single ??
Did they misinterpret what was required? Was it an error? There is a redacted entry which is likely to be a child of this marriage born 1938, but I can't yet find a death reg. Search for births 1932-1939, surname Logan, mmn Peacock will get the birth reg
George did not leave a will so no probate and Ethel May was granted administration of his estate.
Newcastle Evening Chronicle

LOGAN West Sleekburn 11, Marshes
Houses Aug 31 aged 70 years, Ethel
May, dear wife of the late George
Logan. Cremation Cowpen Crematorium
Thursday at 1.30 pm. Friends
please meet at crematorium
Ethel May did not leave a will either and administration of her estate was granted to a married woman (see probate calendar for her name as I believe its the daughter of George and Ethel but she may still be alive).
Still drawing a blank with George Alder Logan :-(

I've no idea, I'll look into it though, thanks.
With ref 'Boo"s message.....I've found Mildred May Logan marrying Frank Sawyer and I've also found reference to a George Aubrey Logan died or buried in Co. Durham.....I'm wondering if this is the same person??

If you do apply, the GRO will ask for/refer to a "Reference Number". This is the "Line Number" on the FindMyPast record.

Not very clear what you have found or which person he could be the same as?
Can you give me the reference or url to what you have found (?possibly on ancestry?)
and who you think he may be the same person as?

HI Boo, it doesnt matter....I thought the George Aubrey Logan was the same person as George Alder Logan but it was a death or burial in Gateshead, C. Durham.
I posted that before reading the messages that followed. No need to be puzzled :)
