There is a find-a-grave entry for Robert Augustus Naghten COX

I am never fully sure about the accuracy of this site these days, but it might be of interest.

I think Charlotte is listed on the 1841 census for St Peter Port Guernsey (New Ground Terrace)
as C Cox age 1 born Guernsey
Above her is her sister F. Cox age 2 born England.
Both in the house of Cox grandfather?
So perhaps looking for a 1840 birth for Charlotte.

I wonder if this was Ellen - mother of Fanny Ellen Osborne in 1891 - living at home with her parents and siblings at Burnt Lane St Peter Port (address on Fanny Ellen's birth translates as Burnt Street)

Samuel Osborne 48 Head
Thersa Osborne 43 Wife
Ellen Osborne    20    Daughter
Olivia Osborne 18 Daughter
John Osborne 12 Son
Emily Osborne 10 Daughter

In 1911 the family are transcribed with the surname Horne and Fanny is listed as the daughter of her grandparents

YES, that's them in St Peter Port in 1841 -- their father Robert Augustus Naghten COX was buried in Candie Cemetery and his parents' names Thomas & Francoise Cox are also listed ... perhaps just a memorial to them?

Thanks!!

YES, this is the family!! Her paternal grandmother was Francoise Cox (grandfather Thomas) - found their names on gravestone in Candie Cemetery photo of Robert Augustus Naghten Cox.

The A Cox, A Cox age 25 both born outside Guernsey fit her parents except for the first initials. (Mother Jane Jones born Wales and father Robert A. N. Cox born Demerara, Guyana)

And yes, 1840 for Charlotte does make more sense  :)

Thanks for this record as it gives me her mother's identity since even at her wedding she gave incorrect names!

Thanks so much for this!! He was born in 1813 in Demerara, Guyana to Thomas & Francoise COX and even though their names are listed on his gravestone and his mother appears to be in the 1841 Census in Peter Port, I cannot find anything else on them.

Thanks for this! Yes, poor Fanny even gave the incorrect names for her parents when she married later in 1917, perhaps she never really knew  :-(

Sorry - Can't see anything for Charlotte Cox in 1841

Charlotte may well have been born 1840 since she was 1 yr old in 1841 Census in St Peter Port - maybe they never registered her birth?

Thanks all the same!!

No wonder I couldn't find the year before, her name has been mis-spelled -- hopefully this will enable someone to locate her birth or baptism record:
NAGHTENCOX, Charlotte Jane (actually was Charlotte Jane Naghten Cox - same middle name for her sister as well as part of her father's)
1840
Bailiwick Of Guernsey, Parish Baptisms
St Peter Port, Guernsey, Channel Islands

Thanks for taking the time & effort Trish!!

I'll follow up on these leads but it's seems virtually impossible to find out much regarding Demerara ... Guyana and such ... at least online :-(

Thanks SO much for this!! Very much appreciated!! I think I'll look into Charlotte Jane Bisson and Emma Sheldon Bisson ... you never know how they may or may not be connected to the family.

There was a Thomas Naghten born about 1783 in Hampshire as well as other connected family who were plantation owners in Guyana, where Robert Augustus Naghten Cox was born ... same time period - it's such an unusual surname that I keep thinking there must be some connection but so far, I've not discovered it so will keep looking :-)
