I am attempting to produce a family tree for my children and grandchildren.
I am try trace my Ex father in laws family and I am getting nowhere.
I have obtained his marriage certificate. Married 1951 Nottingham.
From his marriage certificate I have found out his fathers name.
it was Patrick Joseph Mullan and his own name was also Patrick Joseph Mullan. On the marriage certificate his age was 23 which would mean he was born @1928. Patrick was born in Northern Ireland and I always thought he was born in Belfast in @1928.
But on searching on the NIGRO site I can only find two entries BUT in 1925, 14 May 1925 & 21 N ov 1925. And father and son were named Patrick no middle name of Joseph and of course the year is wrong.
When my father in law married he was based in the RAF also his father in law was also serving in the RAF in Nottinghamshire so i do not think he would lie about his age.
Look forward to any help
Regards
Keith

The online GRONI index only covers births over 100 years and older so it will be a few years until 1928 births are online. In addition the index only includes the first Christian name.

Is there an occupation for his father on the marriage certificate?
-
heywood,
Yes both my father in law and his father in law were both serving in the RAF, so their ranks and service number were entered on the marriage cert.

Yes, I read about the RAF occupations. I meant Patrick Joseph’s father – you said he was also Patrick Joseph. Are you saying that he also was in the RAF?

Yes both were in the RAF

Hi heywood,
I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have been waiting for my ex father in laws death certificate.
On the death cert it confirms his name as Patrick Joseph Mullan. His date of birth is: 19 February 1928 born Belfast Antrim.
So at last I have confirmed details ie correct name and date and place of birth.
I just need to trace back and find his mother and fathers details.
Regards

To do that you will need to order a paper copy of his birth cert from GRONI, either using the online form, or by phoning them. They don't need all the info on the form ie the currently unknown mother's name to fulfill.

In addition the index only includes the first Christian name.
but the 50p Enhanced Birth index includes two and are what they seemed to reply by email with in response to a £7 phone request for a search, giving you the choice of then topping-up to purchase the cert [based on a marriage request].
If searching within the 100 years in person in GRONI or PRONI (or 1922-1925 from home) the Enhanced index can save you a fortune in views, has first & second fornames of child, mother and father eg if looking for a spouse's birth and there are several possibilities.
