Hi :) I am looking for the parents of Margaret Jack from Stoma Canisbay, she was born about 1744 and she was married to Murdoch Rosie can anyone help me out please.
-
Welcome to Rootschat
The marriage was 12.11.1768 & Scotlands People show her surname as Jock
Only births I can see to the marriage are Marjory 1771 & Alexander b 1774
There are several Jock/Jack births in Canisbay but given a marriage in 1768 - none of the birthyears fit

It's a real brick wall for ages 🤔 but thanks so much for your help Trish .

Are you sure it's not Stroma (the island in the stream) a now uninhabited island in the Pentland Firth which is part of the parish of Canisbay?
Most of the residents left in 1962 but Stroma's final abandonment came in 1997 when the lighthouse keepers and their families departed. The island is still used for sheep grazing.

The first and third of those are indexed, complete with date, at SP, with the surname indexed as Jock. See screenshot.
What has happened is that FreeReg has not listed the date because the original record gives the date of the contract or proclamation rather than the date of the wedding ceremony. If you click on any of the 14 listings without dates it tells you this.
SP indexes whatever date is in the original. I prefer this method to the blank in FreeReg because at least it tells you the year, even if the actual wedding date isn't in the original, without having to click separately on the index for every missing wedding date, of which there must be tens of thousands in the surviving records!
