I’m hoping someone can help me find Alice.
Bpt in Wrotham 18 Apr 1869. Parents William & Kezia Homden. Derived from Holmden but over the years there are numerous spellings/interpretations from Holmden to Homden to Homding to Omden + a few others.
In 1881 Alice was with her parents in West Yaldham, Wrotham, Kent but can’t find her after that?
Thank you in advance

Can’t see a birth reg under either spelling. There’s one for an Alice Jane Hammond
What was her mothers maiden name
Have you looked for a marriage or death between 1881-1891?
-
Death for an Alice Homden 4.9.1949 Kent - probate entry shows her as a spinster. Did you check the 1921 census or 1939 register
-
Mother’s maiden name was Green.
I have looked everywhere I can think of marriages & deaths - just sometimes a fresh pair of eyes will see the obvious.
Have checked everything up to 1939 I think ???

1921 - look at entry for Edward Nash b 1847 Canterbury
-
There’s an Alice Hamden spinster age 50 in 1921 born Upper Hardres, Kent. I think that’s Canterbury?
She’s on 1911 as well.
-
You only have her baptismal date. You need her full birthdate to find her in 1939.
For £3 you can download a digital copy but I can’t see a birth at the moment

Parents marriage in 1855 was Omden

Thank you - yes I have that. Amazing number of interpretations of the surname :). It’s Alice I’m stumped with from that family group. Children of William & Kezia. I have bpt for loads of them Seal registers are pretty good.

Hi,
Could Alice been registered as Sarah?
I found this birth,
Sarah Ann HOMDEN Jun Q 1869 Malling 2a 473
mmn: GREEN
Malling is the correct Registration district for Wrothem.
I can't find Sarah anywhere after this, possibly someone registered her with the incorrect name or her parents changed their minds before her baptism.
Regards,
Daisy

Well spotted Daisypetal - certainly the right parents with mmn as Green.
Thank you

Can anyone make out this surname from image?
Thomas Triatmaden 26 Head
Alice Triatmaden 24 Wife
James Tubb 26 Boarder
Thomas/Alice born Plaxtol Wrotham, Kent
Found while looking for Alice but am totally perplexed with this one ::)
-
Following on from daisypetal’s post I found a Sarah Ann Homden marrying Arthur William Underhill in 1897 MarQ Sevenoaks.
Sarah Ann Underhill then appears on 1901CR age 32 born Wrotham a widow working as a servant in Maidstone. Haven’t yet found death of Mr Underhill but I found a marriage in SepQ 1901 Maidstone of a Sarah Ann Underhill to a Frederick Barker.
Still looking :)
Trish - where did you get Triatmaden from - what year?

Marriage
17 Apr 1886, Plaxtol, Kent, England
Thomas Wickenden
Alice Carter
FindMyPast has it as WICKENDEN which is quite impressive as it looks like this,
-
Just in case it helps when looking for Arthur William UNDERHILL, he signs his marriage cert. as Aurther,
-
Thanks
Fairly certain there’s a link as an Arthur W Underhill b. 1865 Mayfield, Sussex is living in Kemsing in 1881 & Alice/Sarah Ann’s parents William & Kezia had moved there between 1881- 1891. Alice was with them in 1881 but haven’t found her in 1891. Still can’t find a death for an Arthur Underhill between their marriage in 1897 & the 1901 CR. Alice or should that be Sarah Ann or is leading me a merry dance.

I think this is her in 1891, bad transcriptions, same person,
Halling, Kent
anc. Sarah Ann HOUSDEN 22 Wrotham, Kent
FindMyPast. Sarah Ann HOMDEN 22 Northam, Kent
It is Halling in Strood RD not Malling.
She really has tried to make it hard to find her ::)

I think this could be the death of Arthur William UNDERHILL, the newspaper clipping seems to have his DOB wrong but the other details fit his life, odd that it doesn't mention a wife,

Brilliant - it certainly fits her claim to being a widow in 1901. He was obviously using William rather than Arthur.
The 1891CR definitely says Homden - amazing how easily the names get corrupted but then I was taught to write with a nib & real ink🤣
