In the Bucks Advertiser, 10th Jan 1863 Page 5, there is an article title 'Mentmore Sad Accident'
It refers to an unpleasantness between Mr Varney and sons, with his wife being knocked down.
Is it possible to give me the name of the wife and article?

I don't think it gives her name.
"On the day following Christmas Day, an unpleasantness occurred between Mr. Varney and his sons, and his wife wishing to preserve peaceful relations between father and sons, stepped in, when by a mischance she was knocked down and broke her leg, a table and one or more of the parties falling upon her. Mr. Wagstaff was sent for, and the poor woman, we learn, is in a fair way of recovery."

Thanks for your quick reply. Pity it doesn't give her name, or the husband,
but seeing the family is from Mentmore, it would be one of my family, must look to see which branch of the family had many sons.

There seem to be two possibilities
John, wife Mary and sons: Edward, George, Robert, Henry
or
Richard, wife Susannah and sons: Richard, Caleb, Robert.

Thanks for your reply. Can't be sure if the poor woman was Mary or Susannah, as you say.
Having a broken leg in those days must have been horrendous, poor lady.

And neither Mary nor Susannah were particularly young.

Mary, my gt gt grandmother died 1881 age 80 and Susannah died 1867 age 73
so after having so many children, and a broken leg for one of them, they didn't do too badly.
