I have very little experience of Yorkshire genealogy at all and am looking for the will of Thomas Oliver who died at Rothwell in 1836. I know the will exists as I can find it in the index "Prerogative & Exchequer Courts Of York Probate Index, 1688-1858" on FindMyPast, but I don't have a subscription to see what the index says. I can't find anything further, are these wills online anywhere ?

He is of Ruston Parva.

Thanks for getting back so quick, I can get at the Borthwick order form (thanks for that, didn't know they did that) but I don't have all the info from the FindMyPast Record, just the basic result page.
Not sure we are talking the same Thomas Oliver though. My guy was born (1758) and died (1836) at Carlton Hall, Rothwell, near Leeds, nowhere near Ruston Parva.

Ah, I see the issue. I think there has been a loading error at FindMyPast.
If I click on both links they take me to the same image (the Ruston Parva one)
But when I look at the ordering references. They are different.

If I could impose further, there is also the will of the elder Thomas Oliver also of Rothwell who died in 1789, probate 1790, could you look up those details for me on Find my Past. If the first will confirms I'm on the right track I'll order the second.

The image is the same because they are both on it
The Thomas Oliver of Ruston Parva is listed in October
and the Thomas Oliver of Carlton, P. Rothwell is further down and listed in December

Thanks for all that, I probably will get carried away, I'm forever disappearing down rabbit holes that lead nowhere. I'll restrict myself to the 1836 Thomas for now because if he's wrong then they all are.
At £7.50 a pop I need to set rules. I think I've been spoiled by Durham Diocese wills, mostly free online and nicely indexed.

If you can get to York to visit the Borthwick, then you can view all of the Probate Books and download copies of any wills you want to a USB stick free of charge.

RowanR - Ironically I'm in York next week but if I broke away from carrying the Christmas shopping to go there I'd be for the high jump !
A trip on my own for family history would cost quite a bit more than all the copy fees added together.
