Title: British Newspaper Archive & Find My Past - help with subscription
Post by: deejayEn on Thursday 27 November 25 13:26 GMT (UK)
Does anyone know if the number of newspapers available on Find My Past is the same as those on the British Newspaper Archive?

Also are there any offers on the subscriptions available at the moment? I particularly want to see newspapers but if FindMyPast has the same titles and includes all theother stuff I might go for that depending on the price.

FindMyPast states they have over 2300 newspaper and date from 1699 - 2009.

Sorry, can't answer your other question.

They both use the same database of scans, but have searate search engines. I think the consensus is that the FindMyPast search is more intuitive and flexible. Also with FindMyPast, my understanding is that you can pay fro individual cuttings without taking out a full subscription. Ina ddition you can access some titles for free: https://www.findmypast.co.uk/newspapers

Agreed, I was just about to post the same.

Interesting. It's been a while since I've used the search engine on the British Newspaper Archives website but back then I found it to be much better than the one on FindMyPast.

Re subscriptions I know that Ancestry has or had special offers that are not generally known about, some people seem to know where to find the links, I wondred if FindMyPast or BNA had similar offers.

Getting FPM at half price has been discussed here previously. No easy link as per Ancestry but they can be persuaded that 50% is better than nothing.

Not sure if that link will work to a previous chat.
PS I see it does.

The 50% FPM offer seems to have expired in Sep but there is still an offer of about 40% via the list cousins link. The BNA seems better value at 25% off, so I'm opting for that.

Thanks to all for your help.

The BNA search & filter feature is better, but there again given it is quite expensive to subscribe, it should be.

On the other hand I have just subscribed to FindMyPast for one year for less than £99 so now have the best of all worlds.

Please share the link where you managed to subscribe to FindMyPast for less than £99, that sounds better value.
