Allan Campbell(28) married Jessie Ann Mackenzie Cunningham(24) 27 Sep 1912 Fodderty, Ross & Cromarty. Allan's parents were Alexander Campbell(Ploughman) and Catherine McDonald. Jessie's parents are shown as David Cunningham(farmer) and Jessie Ann Mackenzie. On the marriage record the bride's MacKenzie name has a line drawn through it.
I have found Allan in 1891 and 1901 but Jessie is a puzzle prior to the marriage. After the marriage the family moved to Ontario, Canada and lived in St Thomas where they are buried. Some records show Jessie as Cunningham and some as McKenzie.
I have looked for Jessie birth 1887/88 both as Cunningham and Mc/MacKenzie with no luck. Same for census. Also looked for Cunningham/MacKenzie marriage with no luck.
Canadian records show Allan born 1884 and Jessie 1887. No birth record found for Allan

Probably this one, the family is in Kiltearn in 1901 and Allan is said to be born in Killearnan.

There is a 2 yr old child with her named Jessie Ann Cunningham.
I think your couple have a child named Jessie Ann (age 19 born Ross-shire) who gets married in Canada in 1928.
This is the child's birth record - may well tell you something useful.

Perhaps this is birth you are looking for. (I would check out the 1911 census first)
Annie Jessie Cunningham born 1887 Inverness (no Mother maiden name on index) ref 098 / 523
In 1891 census she is in Fodderty (age 3, born Inverness) with the McKenzie family. Head of house is Roderick McKenzie, a flesher/ butcher born abt 1826 in Gairloch
In 1901 census the same child is now Annie J MacKenzie age 12, “a friend born Inverness” ;), in the same Household.
In the same house - Jessie McKenzie (possible mother for Anne Jessie would have been a VERY young mother) born 1876 Fodderty. So unlikely.
However there are a couple of potential fathers for Annie Jessie in that house.
And I think her mother was a Cunningham - her name will be on the birth certificate.

Birth record shows dob 18 Oct 1887 Inverness. Father was David Cunningham(Shepherd) and mother was Jessie Mackenzie(Domestic Servant). Tallies nicely with marriage record.

The 1911 census shows that Annie Jessie is the niece of Roderick Mackenzie. In 1901 Annie is shown as Friend and in 1891 she is shown as Boarder(3yrs). Her mother Jessie is shown as 14 yrs in 1891. Not good.

There obviously must be more to find out.
Her father would not have been named on the record unless he was there at the registration.
On the census records, Roderick McKenzie, as head of household, was working very hard to disguise the true identity of Annie Jessie. Trying to make everything look "respectable", to the census enumerator at least.

Was this the mother of Annie Jessie Cunningham born 18 Oct 1887?
She would have been extremely young (about 11, I suppose not impossible) and therefore the father David may have been a teenager too. Seems unlikely.
Why was the baby born in Inverness?
Was the mother sent away from home to give birth?
Or was there another Jessie McKenzie that we have missed, who was the mother? I think this might be the case, so it’s very important to know all the detail from the birth reg.

Roderick McKenzie 2nd married 1874 in Urray to Margaret Matheson
(2 children:- John 1875 and Jessie 1876)
Roderick McKenzie died in 1916.

Having looked at the family now, I think the witness, Catherine Mackenzie, will be Jessie's sister-in-law.
Jessie's brother, John MacKenzie, married Catherine Shaw in 1902.

What was David Cunningham's address according to the birth certificate?
There is a David Cunningham, shepherd, aged 29, in Contin in the 1881 census and he is still in Contin in 1891, aged 39 and unmarried.
I don't believe that Jessie b 1876 is the mother of Jessie Ann or Annie Jessie Mackenzie or Cunningham b 1887.
The birth of Jessie McKenzie, mother's maiden name Matheson, was registered in Fodderty in 1876, the 40th birth registered in the parish that year. The total number of births registered in Fodderty in 1876 was 43. Therefore Jessie was born towards the end of the year.
Annie Jessie Mackenzie or Cunningham was born in October 1887. Therefore she was conceived early in 1887. That was only a couple of months after the 10th birthday of Jessie b 1876, and Jessie b 1876 was probably still only 10 years old when Annie Jessie was born.
So I don't think 'lodger' and 'friend' are attempts to cover up a closer relationship. 'Niece' in 1911 does imply a relationship - perhaps she was a great-niece?
Roderick Mackenzie, aged 93, son of Roderick Mackenzie and Christian Macdonald, died in Fodderty in 1916. There is a matching baptism on 12 April 1826, and he had two brothers, Murdoch b 1816 and Hector b 1829. Perhaps the errant Jessie Ann was a daughter of one of these brothers? Or of another sibling whose baptism is not in the surviving records?
