Why can't I find attestation papers on FindMyPast for a GI , I have a full subscription, the page comes up but I cannot then access them, it does show he enlisted in 1941 as a private, he was probably in Northampton area

I had a similar problem when searching for my husbands father who was a GI. In a lot of cases you have to pay a subscription to FOLD3 to access more information if they are available or you could try the 7 day free trial. If you have proof that you are related you can apply to the National Personnel Records Centre situated in St Louis, for a copy of the records. Sadly between 16-18 million official military personnel files were lost in a fire July 1973. We are one of the very lucky ones & were able to get a copy.
