Edwin Lindsey is left and the candidate is right. It's unfortunate his face is blurred but i still think the nose and moustache are very similar.

Apparently ears are useful identifiers. I was reading about how to detect AI fakes - they tend to fail at the ears.

Yes I remember reading this also and don't find the ears to be very alike across the two photos. Though aside from the ears, I can see a similarity. Another point might be if there was an injury to the ear at some stage?
-
Yes, I think it is probably the same person.
I am going by the hair line and hair parting.
-
Do you have any idea of dates photos were taken? One on the right looks a bit older - hair receding.
The left one looks younger and more well to do than the one on the right, though difficult to judge from a blurry photo, but the one on the right doesn’t look as well turned out.
The ears do look different though it’s not clear.
Perhaps they are related rather than the same person?
The second photo - is there anyone or anything identifiable in the rest of the photo?
-
Yes, most probably the same person.
Agree on the same hairline, as well as the hair being light and fine (not coarse).
Same jawline, cheekbone, wide-set eyes (sort of)
Still with the same style moustache but longer on the right
The ear looks different (strange) in the right photo and the right eye seems stretched sideways, which may be motion blur.

I think it's about ear shape rather than details. Also people inherit either attached or detached ear lobes. And some people have ears that stick out prominently.

There is no date on the back of the right photo but if it is Edwin it could be around 1916 (he would be 25), if not i think it could be 1912/1913. The one on the left i got from an ancestry tree, they said it's dated 1915 meaning he would be 24 which looks correct. The photos are only (supposedly!) a year apart so not to much would have changed.
No name are on the back of the photo so i have been going off looks which has been proven quite difficult.

The full photo is a wedding group in front of a house somewhere in surrey. I have been looking for the house for a few weeks now with no luck. Edwin's wife (Olive) could possibly be sitting in front of him next to her supposed brother (Arthur). Her sister (Kate) might be the one on the rug and another sister (Violet) could be sitting far left in the white dress. I will attach photos of the comparisons and the original photo. (I think the sign in the back says "Eton Cottages" but it is hard to tell)

Do you know who the infant is? If you know when they were born, that would be a good dating clue.
With such a blurred image I wouldn’t like to hazard a guess at the age of Edwin in the group photo. The sitter for the portrait could be 24, give or take. Have you contacted the owner of the Ancestry tree who may have more details about the portrait?
-
They do look very similar but the right hand 'Edwin' looks thinner and more than a year older - did Edwin fight in WW1? That may account for it if he did.

They could possibly be Olive Mary Lindsey, Edwin's daughter but i don't think they share many features. There is another baby far right but you can't see their face. If it was Olive M it would put the photo around late 1914/1915. Olive M's sister Margaret may be the other baby putting it late 1916 but
I'm not sure.

I can't find anything to say he did fight or was discharged from the army so i would say no.
