The FindMyPast entry gives a reference number and claims it's possible to get a copy, but I can't actually find a valid link on their site.
I then tried googling, got through to the QLD government website and can't see any facility for ordering copies of historic birth certificates. I tried to send them an enquiry but their form kept rejecting me as 'null (includes)' whatever that means.
I have a feeling a kind RootsChat member told me this isn't always possible, but in that case, why does FindMyPast say it is?
All guidance appreciated! I'd just like to know where he was born precisely! I see that 1874 is just after two gold rushes, which may be his parents were there.

Yes, it is perfectly possible to purchase the item you are after.
Are you using this site?
https://www.familyhistory.bdm.qld.gov.au/

Once you have done a search and found the item, click on Order Product and then which image you want - online PDF.
-
No I wasn't on that site! Thank you so much, this is exactly what I want!

Oh good. Glad to help. Hope it is smooth sailing now. :)

Me too! However, since posting I've realised my subject's father was mixed up with at least two gold mining companies, and without any knowledge of the subject I imagine all sorts of shenanigans went on -- so I will probably post in this section again soon for clarification ...
Thank you again!

Don't forget you can use www.trove.nla.gov.au for free newspapers that often have lots of interesting info of ancestors especially shenanigans!

Yes, Trove is an amazing resource! I spent yesterday afternoon looking up my chap's father. He was evidently involved with gold mines in both Queensland and Western Australia. As I said before, I look forward to exploring that aspect further.
