Hi there,
One of my relatives was called Alfred James Rovery. He was born 4th July 1900 and married Lily Renhsaw in October 1923.
Apparently he died in Panama in 1942. How would I go about finding more information about this? Where should I start? I've checked newspaper records but I can't find any details. It seems strange because I can't find anything to suggest we sent troops to Panama from the UK during WW2.
Any ideas on where to start?
Thanks,

He was in Bromley for the 1939 register.
His date of birth 4th July 1900 which fits exactly with the details of the baptism of Alfred James Rovery, son of Abraham and Rose, at Ide Hill, Kent.
Added apologies, I see the OP has already mentioned the date of birth.

Thanks all,
Mystery solved - he died in St Pancras in 1942 not in Panama. Many thanks to Tony for spotting that connection - I hadn't thought to try his middle name as the first name.
The Panama lead came from Ancestry where its likely a mis-translation from an online record.
Best,

Still a mystery - his mmn on the 1900 birth reg is Harding. Marriage 1899 shows her surname as Woolger
1911 has a daughter Mary b 1903 - mmn Woolgar plus a dtr Nellie b 1910 - mmn Harding?
There is an 1883 illegitimate birth for Rosina Harding in 1883 which would make her 16 when she married

The Ancestry tree also says Alfred & Lily had only one child.
Denis Alfred Rovery was b 1925 - died 1996
Another son Brian James Rovery was b 1934 died 2022
