Hello Everyone.
I am looking for information on the parents of my 3rd great grandmother, Emily Olivia Bunce. I am struggling to find information on her parents, especially her mother. TIA.
Emily Olivia Bunce
b. 1853 - Swindon, Wiltshire, England
d. 1918 - Lambeth, London, England
m. 1874 to Charles Henry Dyer

Have you looked for her on the 1861 or 1871 censuses? I can see an 1861 entry which matches her profile
Does she name a father on her marriage cert?
-
She married as Emily Bunce & signed the register as Emily. Father shown as William (deceased) no occupation shown
There is an illegitimate birth for an Emily Bunce in Wilts but it was in 1851.
-
There is a baptism for Emily Bunce 11.1.1852 South Marston. Mother Matilda
On the 1881 census Emily O Dyer gives her birthplace as Marston
Charles Dyer was only b 1854 so could Emily have knocked a year or 2 off her birthyear??
-
1861 has a Matilda Bunce b 1833 Marston working as a servant
May be coincidence but given the 1874 marriage of Emily was in Kensington - both Emily Bunce & Matilda Bunce are living & working in Kensington in 1871
A Matilda Bunce also married in Kensington in 1878

Hi
Looks like William Bunce is the grandfather
1861 Highworth Cottage

1861
James Bunce 64 carpenter b Purton
Susanna 64 b Shaw
Sarah 32 dtr b Purton
Emily 7 g/dtr b Swindon
Piece 1275/59/3
1841 shows Matilda Bunce as the daughter of William & Rachel so Emily is the 1851 illegitimate birth.
You can download a digital copy of her birth cert for £3

If she is an illegitimate birth is there no way of finding her fathers name unless i thoroughly look through my DNA matches? ???
-
No - It won’t be on her birth cert, it’s not on the christening entry & the “father” on the marriage cert is probably her grandfather. Many illegitimate children made up a fathers name when they married to appear “respectable”

I just bought the birth cert. Emily's birthday is 8 Dec 1851.
She was a servant when the 1851 census was taken, which was taken in the March. 9 months from Mar-Dec. She would have had to conceive around the time that the census was taken. I suppose it could be a possibility that the father could be the head of household or the other servant in the household?
