Can anyone read the first two words of this cause of death? It's for a 12 year old in 1852.
And the same person is on the 1851 census, is there a middle initial for George? There is one shown in the transcription but I'm not 100% sure and no other records show a middle name.

If it is a middle name the GRO site should give you clarification... if you know the surname and birth year

Thank you to you both. The middle initial has been transcribed as 'L' which I can understand, but I'm also not sure if it's actually just part of the 'do'. There is no middle name recorded on the birth, death or baptism records.

This is from Piece 1652/Folio 503/pg 29
I just checked - FindMyPast have transcribed it with no middle initial, as have Family Search.
I'd say that if this is the only record during his life that has a middle initial recorded then its highly likely that it is the 'do' referring to the surname but possibly started to write a capital D and then altered it.

I think it looks like George S. The "S" is very similar to that in "Sutton" above, with "do" almost overlapping.

I agree, it is S but I think it is not an initial but that he started to write the full name of SUTTON then realised it was not necessary and put the usual do.
