It looks like you posted before you were finished with your post, but the Social Security death index has his death date as 7 Jan. 2005.  https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VSZQ-G3Y?lang=en

Social Security numident has the same date - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6K3C-2LDY?lang=en

The obituary seems to match - https://www.newspapers.com/article/the-times-leader-obituary-for-william-h/184041190/

That's weird. The whole message appeared in yellow when I pressed 'Post' !! Here it is if I can remember the exact wording:
'I am getting in an argument about his death. He was a writer and movie collector from Dallas, Pennsylvania. The only obit I can find (https://erblist.com/erblist/hallofmemories.shtml#tredinnick) says, as you will see, he died December 2004, but the only such death I can find, on SSDI etc., is for a William H. Tredinnick jr. of Dallas, PA who died 7th January 2005.
Trouble is some contacts, like the chap who wrote the obituary, will not accept the 2005 death  but the 2004 one which came from a reporter not official sources. Can anyone provide evidence to prove them wrong ?'
By the way, thanks Shelly for the obituary.
Regards
John

I can't seen anything on the link you provided.  The proof is that the Social Security death index said he died on 7 Jan. 2005.  Nothing is 100% correct, but this almost certainly would have been based on the date on his death certificate that was provided to the Social Security Administration.  The obituary matches too.

I wouldn't bother arguing with anyone about it, but a Pennsylvania death certificate can be ordered by one of the following:

Quote
Eligible applicants must be 18 years of age or older, and include the following:

    Spouse
Ex-spouse.  An ex-spouse must provide documentation to establish direct interest.
Parent or step-parent.  A step-parent must also submit a marriage certificate to support the relationship to the person named on the death certificate.
    Brother, sister, half-brother, half-sister
    Son or daughter
Step-son or step-daughter (must submit the parent's marriage certificate to support the relationship)
    Grandparent or great-grandparent
    Grandchild or great-grandchild
    Power of Attorney
Attorney or legal representative of the decedent's estate (must provide supporting documentation)
Representative of the decedent's estate (must provide documentation to establish direct interest)
Individual showing a direct financial interest to the decedent (must provide documentation to support direct interest)
Government office that has assumed administration of an estate (must provide a letter signed by an official of the government office indicating the purpose for which the applicant is being retained and identifying the estate involved).
Extended family members who indicate a direct relationship to the decedent (documentation may be required).

The cemetery might be able to provide information, or someone on Find a Grave or other comparable sites might be able to take a picture of the gravestone if there is one.

I can't seen anything on the link you provided.

I found it by going here: https://erblist.com/erblist/hallofmemories.shtml
and clicking on William Tredennick's name in the list.
