Hi everyone,
I am looking for information on Henry Mason from Plumstead, Kent in the 1830's.
My 3x Great Grandfather Robert Mason was a carpenter from Great Yarmouth and came to work for Henry Mason in the 1830's as Journey Man Carpenter.
Robert was illegitimate and beside his mother Sarah, Wife and 2 sons i am unable to find any other family in England. He was later sent to Van Diemans Land as a convict in 1832.
Im trying to establish if Henry Mason was a relative or was it just coincidence they shared the same surname.
I have no other info regarding Henry that may help.
Many thanks

Apprenticeship records show that a Henry Mason was in business as a carpenter in Plumstead as far back as 1789.
-
It was reported in the Kentish Gazette on 8th May 1860.
Henry George Mason ,Tax Collector, the son of Carpenter ,Undertaker and Coffin Maker Henry Mason of Plumstead Road, appeared in Court.
Henry George was ordered to pay Damages of £140.00 to the Mother of a young lass for reneging on his promise to marry her daughter after a child was born as a result of him seducing her at Shooters Hill in 1859.

Thats interesting, thank you.
I have researched into this family now for a few days, not sure if and how they are connected to my grandfather though. So that still remains a mystery.

We seem to have three generations of Henry Masons
Henry (carpenter) who took on an apprentice in 1789 and probably the one with will of 1827 and has son Henry
Henry (carpenter and undertaker (born about 1789 according to 1851 census) fits with the one bapt 23 Nov 1788 in Plumstead s/o Henry and Jane.
Henry George (tax collecter) and son of Henry 1789.
Where did grandfather Henry come from?
